  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

I got my hands on 55g powder of chlorpyrifos, it expires in 2029

I also have antiemetics

I'm curious if ingesting chlorpyrifos leads to a slow and excruciating death because that's what i managed to get my hands on, i searched for SN and SA everywhere for over a year, it looks impossible to find in a third world country

I considered things like hanging and drowning but i still have trauma from a failed hanging attempt so i guess i'll have to settle for this

Compared to other methods, is this a very horrible way to die?

This member wrote about their experience with testing the poison Chlorpyrifos. There's no mention of quantity, purity and form, but it seems to have been a small dose in liquid form, and a rather painful experience. The person survived.

I'm planning to ingest pesticide [Chlorpyrifos] to catch the bus. […] A few minutes ago, I drank a little bit a poison to see what's going happen. I'm feeling a slight discomfort in my belly and eyes. I feel like my mouth is burning now. I will ingest more poison soon. I hope this works.
I'm still here. I'm getting cold sweat. My belly hurts so much now. I'm feeling a terrible pain in my stomach. My breath tastes like poison. I'm feeling sleepy. Today at night I'll take my second dose of the pesticide I hope it works otherwise I'll try poison and hanging. Unfortunately I didn't lose my consciousnesses yet 🙄 😒

Problem is many of the methods are relying on cutting off oxygenation to the brain and other organs, which if you are found early or it doesn't work as well for your body, are more likely to result in brain damage due to the mechanism. […] Poisoning your body, for instance, with organophosphates or Tylenol, is a pretty surefire way to go but definitely not painless.

The information below is gathered from sources that are listed on the Chlorpyrifos Wikipedia article.

Signs of Toxicity - Humans
  • Signs and symptoms typically develop within minutes to hours after an acute exposure to chlorpyrifos. Initial signs and symptoms include tearing of the eyes, runny nose, increased saliva and sweat production, nausea, dizziness and headache. Signs of progression include muscle twitching, weakness or tremors, lack of coordination, vomiting, abdominal cramps, diarrhea, and pupil constriction with blurred or darkened vision. Signs of severe toxicity include increased heart rate, unconsciousness, loss of control of the urine or bowels, convulsions, respiratory depression, and paralysis.
  • Psychiatric symptoms associated with acute exposure include anxiety, depression, memory loss, confusion, stupor, bizarre behavior, and restlessness.
  • Single, high-dose exposures to organophosphates in humans can also result in intermediate syndrome. Signs and symptoms typically occur 24-96 hours after exposure. As in animals, the syndrome is characterized by the absence of muscarinic signs. […] Signs observed in humans include reduced tendon reflexes, cranial nerve palsies, weakness in the facial, neck, proximal limb muscles, and partial respiratory paralysis.

Organophosphate (OP) pesticides were responsible for the majority of deaths in most series of self-poisoning cases, particularly those from rural areas. The reported fatality in hospital-based surveys was as high as 46%. Case series have also been reported from Brazil, Chile, China, Costa Rica, Ethiopia, Guyana, India, Iran, Israel, Kenya, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Tunisia, Turkey, and Zimbabwe.

The author of the study said the data is very patchy because only few countries had more than one study and most of these papers presented few details of the patient.

Acts of pesticide self-poisoning are associated with a case fatality of between 1% and 70%, depending on the particular pesticide taken. […] case fatality for the organophosphorus (OP) insecticides dimethoate and chlorpyrifos are 23% and 8%* respectively.

I have no medical background or in-depth chemistry knowledge or personal experiences, but if you're concerned about pain then I'd discourage you from ingesting Chlorpyrifos. The above information suggests symptoms will show within minutes to hours, but says nothing about when death will occur for humans.

Read this study if you're interested about the fatality rate of Chlorpyrifos in case you're admitted to a medical ward. The 8% of people who ingested Chlorpyrifos and died died after days, not hours, likely due to medical treatments in an effort to save them. I couldn't find much information on when death occurs after ingestion when there's no medical intervention.

As for the quantity (and quality) of Chlorpyrifos you need to ingest, one study suggests Chlorpyrifos is more toxic in rats than it is toxic in people, while another study claims humans may be more sensitive to Chlorpyrifos compared to rats or dogs. The oral LD50 for mice is 60 mg/kg, and for rats it ranges from 95 to 270 mg/kg, and 800 mg/kg in sheep. No idea about humans though. And how pure is your 55g powder Chlorpyrifos?

In my opinion, ingesting pesticides seems like a slow and painful way to die relative to SN or non-chemical options.
