Why would anyone want to be buried in a cemetery. Your last act in life is to waste a piece of land.

Indee. Burials are such a waste. Good, beautiful land filled with dead bodies, fenced off. Families have to pay a fortune to bury their relatives.

When my grandmother died, my father had to take a sizable loan to buy a casket and a temporary plot at a local cemetery (a year later they transfer her bones to a collective ossuary). This is crazy. We didn't even have a car, and he was wasting money he didn't have on a stupid casket.

Waste of land and money. People spend way to much on dead people.

I used to think this, but I worry more about the emissions from cremation. I want a natural burial to allow for better biodegradation. I'm probably unusual - less so on here - in that I'd be fine with an unmarked and shared grave. Having designated burial land is good sanitation practice, though.

I haven't thought to much about it. I don't really care what happens to my body. I see a lot wanting a pretty corpse or worrying about their body after and I just really don't care. It's an empty shell of what I once was.

Are you me?. I made those exact same arguments. Cemeteries are a horrible waste of land. I'm also against funeral precessions do to traffic congestion. I actually looked it up to see if I was the only one.....nope! Actually mayors of certain American towns got them banned for the same concerns.

It is a shame that land is wasted on burying dead bodies. I've heard that costs can be extremely expensive as well. I don't really care about what happens to my body after I die but I wouldn't want my family to waste money that they don't have on a burial.

Also funerals. What a scam! 10,000 dollars. You can't invest in a stiff. I know that sounds cold but it's true.

Yes, but this post is about people wanting to be buried in a cemetery/people burying others in a cemetery.

I don't care too much about what happens to my body. I just don't want to traumatize anyone which is why I've switched from gun to full suspension hanging, but after that, dump it in the garbage for all I care. Don't waste money on a funeral. I might even include in my suicide note to please not worry about funerals because I just don't care.

When I was a young child, my parents used to tell me that if you get buried in a cemetary, you will hear all of the anguished souls screaming for all eternity.
Flipping traumatized me until I had enough common sense to believe otherwise.

actually our modern type of cemetery was made to waste less land. they were made to be like a park so besides their one duty, people could also come and use them. and since bodies were not overly preserved, they could use a minimum of space eventually. things seem to have drifted since then, unfortunately.

I don't really give a fuck, I'm not bothered what happens to me or some hypothetical future environment. Even if you put every person on Earth in side by side graves, it would still only take up the tiniest fraction of overall land. Plus I toss my cigarette butts and stuff wherever so it would be a bit hypocritical of me to pretend I'm conscientious about this kind of thing.

I wished I could add onto my note that I wished my family would just toss my body in the dumpster but something tells me they'd completely ignore it.

I totally get that. I really don't have a problem if anyone else wants to be buried in a cemetery because it doesn't affect me at all, but for me personally, I just find it to be so unnecessary and expensive. Between the casket, the gravestone, the maintenance, the inevitable feeling of obligation my family will probably experience to visit the grave, etc. it's just not practical. The last thing I want is for someone to feel like they have to run errands for me after I'm dead... fuck that.

I have a separate note for loved ones stating that I'd definitely prefer to be cremated and have my ashes scattered in the Pacific Ocean because it's way cheaper and "living me" really doesn't like the idea of slowly decomposing underground, but in the end, I'll be the one who's dead, they are the ones who will be grieving, and they can do whatever gives them the most closure.

I don't have anyone in this world. So nobody to be scammed to pay thousands in my burial. That will be the problem of whoever finds me. For all I care, toss me in the trash.

I want to be either cremated or have my body donated to science. I don't want to be buried. For one thing It's nothing but a waste of money to buy a $5000 box you're never gonna see again. And putting out a rock that costs $2000 is a waste too. But more personally, I'm claustrophobic as hell. So I don't like the idea of being locked in a box and having 6 feet of dirt piled on top of me. Thinking about it makes me start to have panic attacks.

Also, ever since I was a little kid I have had this irrational fear that even though your body is dead, your mind is still conscious. You can hear and could even see if your eyes were open. You could also think. But nothing else worked. And being locked up and buried away, would be something to drive a person to insanity. So burn me up, chop me up, but don't fucking bury me.

I'm fine with being cremated and shoved into a glitter box. Someone could leave it somewhere random for all I really care.
