I have a 2 stroke backpack style leaf blower. If I ran it with me in a car would it produce enough CO to succeed? Also, would other exhaust fumes cause problems like nausea etc since it burns less clean than 4 stroke? And finally, should I let it idle or lock the throttle open?

It's iffy. Yes, some have been successful using small engines in vehicles, even 4 stroke engines. There was even a movie made about one such instance called Conrad and Michelle. The thing about engines is that you'd be breathing in a lot more than just the CO, the kind of nasty stuff that would give you enormous headaches and other unwanted symptoms. Pure CO at a very high level, like 10000 PPM or more, should render you unconscious within a few breaths. Then you wouldn't be aware of any of the other affects that occur leading up to death. Ideally, you would want a way to measure the amount of CO within your "space" to make sure that the level is above the 10000 PPM threshold. That takes a CO analyzer capable of measuring a concentration that high, costing about $400 US, maybe a little less. But, people have just winged it and have succeeded, too. I guess it depends on your level of comfort. The consequences for failure are quite high. If you survive you could be left a "vegetable", unable to do anything for yourself, henceforth. That would include not being able to ever again take any measures to remove yourself from this new hell you might find yourself in. I'm not trying to scare you or anything. You need to make up your own mind as to what you want to do. I just think you should have all the facts while you thoughtfully contemplate any plan you might have.

As someone who feels she is pretty well versed in the inert gas realm, I want to comment. CO (carbon monoxide) is not an inert gas. it is a poison gas. So you will feel like you are being poisoned.

A leaf blower in a car would do the trick. But your survival instinct would make you open the door or roll down windows because you would feel sick before death. CO is not an inert gas where you just die without knowing what's happening. Idoling a gasoline leaf blower in a car with the windows rolled up will kill you within 20-30 minutes. But it won't be peaceful or painless.

At a level 10000 PPM or more of CO, you pass out within a couple breaths. That's it. Lights out. Anything after that, ie death, and the lead-up to death, you are unaware of it because you are unconscious. Yes, CO is a poisonous gas. With that I agree. I also agree that if you don't get the level of CO up to the amount I already mentioned, that the lower the level of CO in the "space", the more "suffering" you will have to endure until death finally comes. CO can be very quick, and quite peaceful, IMO, if done correctly. It's all about the concentration and making sure you've achieved that concentration. And it's relatively cheap and doesn't require a great deal of apparatus, like inert gas does.

If you have done all the research and believe you can create an 80%+ CO environment in a matter of seconds with a leaf blower in a car with the windows rolled up , you will definitely die quickly and without much pain. When you use poison (CO), however, there is always the chance of suffering, just like with SN. You will die. As long as you are cool with a potential 30-60 minute suffering window, your method will work for sure.

I agree. Do a trial test first to make sure the concentration of CO is high. (If you don't want to spend $400 for a commercial device, a consumer detector would at least give you an indication if the CO level rises really quickly.) You wouldn't want to fail with this method! I would add you could run the leaf blower rich by adjusting the carburetor which should raise the CO level. However many new are leaf blowers have non-adjustable carburetors (and are set to run lean) so an older one would be better for that. In short, I think there are better methods.

Not me with the leaf blower. That's the OP. I'm using lump charcoal in a tent and I purchased a CO analyzer.

IMO that would provide a false sense of security. You'd have no idea where the CO would top out at with a consumer detector. Best chance of success with CO = small, sealed, enclosure such as a tent, a bag of good quality 100% carbon lump charcoal, and some studying on how to do it right.

How many ppm , mine has 1000ppm , i want the 10 000ppm but its like 500$.

Which brand the charcoal briquettes , somebody in this forum did it with weber briquettes so i would use something that worked before.

But what if you use sleeping pills so you go to sleep and it helps with the process? Would that work?

I do not know about that. Haven't read/seen CO talked about in these threads as a method at all. But it might be here. Search the threads. It will work for sure. CO is poisonous and kills without people knowing it. But I cannot help as far as execution of that method.

You can get them for about $350 for the 10000 PPM one. They have an 18000 PPM one, but it's like $600.

Just search keywords "10000 PPM CO Analyzer" and you should find it. Search in the Bing Shopping link, or you can probably find it a bunch of other ways. You should find a few companies selling one. One is cheaper than rest, plus you can get a 1st order discount.

RO. Lump. 100% carbon.

It could. But, you might have a difficult time "timing" the taking of the pills to coincide correctly with the timing of CO production, at least from charcoals. Remember you have to light the charcoals, wait on them to stop smoking and for them to become red/white hot, stick he containers they are in into a tent or whatever, wait more time for the CO to fill your enclosure and reach an adequate level, and then go into your enclosure to CTB. I'm not sure you'd want to do all that when you're groggy or getting groggy.

In that case, there is a chance it can be peaceful I guess.

CO is better than an intert gas as its not only undetectable by the body but it accumulates too. Unlike inert gases that stop once oxygen gets in.

Thanks everyone! I can't access a CO detector so I probably won't use this method. Hopefully this post is useful for others though.

This is exactly why I abandoned my carbon monoxide method and switched to Nitrogen.
Too many reports of people saying it's painful, and having residual effects if you survive.
I've read articles on how a family could have poisoning, two will die, the remaining family members would pass out and wake up in pain. It really doesn't sound peaceful.
