So if I just lighted the charcoal in my house with my windows open, and then close the windows when the charcoal turns ashy grey and has no smoke and then I put a tent in my house and go in and seal myself inside it, will it work? Because i think my house is too big

im not a fan of the tent theory, because tents are often very leaky for gas. you have no small rooms in ur house like toilet?

Yeah I have a toilet, I guess I will use toilet then, I need to seal the doors and windows
Should I just buy 5kg charcoal briquette and put as many as possible to ensure I ctb? Is 5kg more than 10,000 ppm?

be aware that this method is not for everyone. It is best to practice the home and use a co-meter.
maybe special tents are better for this method but you really have to know it. small rooms <15m3 are the easiest imo. only you have to use all the more charcoal

Don't use a smoke detector style meter, those usually only go up to 999 which is enough to give you headaches but not high enough to know if you'll CTB or not. A thread on this forum where someone had a 999 meter survived the attempt in their truck with headaches and nausea.

If you don't have a high quality professional meter I wouldn't consider this method reliable. Sure people do die from CO all of the time accidentally and intentionally, but it's a crap shoot if it'll work depending on your conditions unless you can measure it and be sure.

I think you need to be above 1600ppm for a few hours for it to be fatal, but the nausea and headaches you get during that time will likely make your SI take over and abandon the attempt. You want 10,000ppm+ So it'll only be a few minutes to unconsciousness and CTB.

You could probably get away with a meter that goes over the fatal limit of 1600ppm, but it could be hours of symptoms before it actually works, and you have to keep it above that level.

i have a "testo 317-3" ,it measures a maximum of 1999 ppm. i payed for this 180euros... but i will buy soon a tpi 707 (10000ppm) for 500+euros because i need it to import from usa... without import the price is like 350dollars but generally this meter is recommended.

I feel like screwing it and just buy 5kg of charcoal and seal the bathroom and just die there
That co meter is so expensive

maybe there is the possibility to rent a professional co-meter in your country. In Germany where I live I have not found an offer
it is also important if you do it in the bathroom, sink and bathtub to flood so that no gas escapes through the drain

Yeah it's expensive, it's why I haven't decided on that method. I don't want to wake up the next day knowing it didn't work and not knowing how far away I actually was from it working properly. Trial and error maybe a few times and you'll get it. If you're lucky and the conditions are right the first time would work, just make sure nobody will catch you doing it, it might be much harder to try a second time.

I hope you find peace regardless. I don't mean to dissuade you from this method, I'm sure it works for a lot of people, I just personally don't trust it.

I read about a CO-meter rental service but I lost the link.
But I guess these guys will ask for a substantial down payment, so this may not be feasible.

The price is one of the reasons why so few people choose this reliable method(imo). for me it is clear that I would rather spend the money for the meter than buy n after the whole story here ...

I'm not sure, maybe they also tried it a few times until they got it right, we only hear about the final success usually.

If you're going to try without a meter, I'd suggest setting it up in a small room like you're talking about and letting it sit for an hour before going in, as the CO level should be rising the entire time the charcoal is smoldering and you don't want to suffer the low level effects if you can avoid it. If you don't pass out from the CO in under 15 minutes I'd suggest giving up on that attempt as the concentration of CO probably wasn't high enough to start with, or you didn't have enough charcoal. Ideally you'll pass out in under a few minutes if the concentration is high enough, maybe even just a couple of breaths if it's extremely high.

I wonder how many of those "accidents" where people were trying to stay warm in the winter were actually CTB attempts. It's impossible to tell the difference and people just might think you didn't know and wanted to stay warm.

the problem is also the long-term damage, which can occur if your attempt fails (5-40% chance or something). there may be damage to the central nervous system, so it is advisable to go to the doctor immediately if you stop the attempt.

At least 10,000 ppm will kill you in 1 to 3 minutes

8chan says 1kg for a normal car ~3 m3 but its not wrong to use more. for exemple i used 2kg in my 12 m3 room and reached 2000ppm after 12 min. a guy in 8chan thread reached 7400+ ppm with 1kg after 40min but I think he did not use briquettes, just regular coal.

using a typical amount of briquettes of about 1 kg in a poorly ventilated area is likely to lead to clinical toxicity and might lead to death.

The charcoal has to be good quality charcoal

You can use more to ensure higher rate of lethality

How do you place them in the car?
You have to let it burn outside before putting in the car and wait till it turns ashy grey or white with no smoke then bring it in on a tray or something
Here is the link

Let's open another fifty Carbon Monoxide / Charcoal threads so that nobody can find anything on this forum anymore !
Let's repeat everything over and over and over again, because people can be assumed to be too lazy to read the threads that already deal with all of this in depth.

I survived carbon monoxide poisoning and it did damage to my thinking.. I sometimes have spells of confused thinking. At first it was bad, but in time it has gotten better.

Oh yeah, how could I forget.... it also caused me to have asthma- like breathing problems that have not gone away.

Worked well for one user Xanax she successfully succeeded and she used A tent

Hi what did you use briquettes. ? Did you just nip in room with the meter quickly to get the levels? Maybe the levels accumulate higher over time even if fuel only gives off certain amount. Thanks

I am without a car or money, disabled, and getting sicker. I didn't want to do this in my home, but I have no way to get anywhere else. I'm 73 and been sick long enough. I have a large bedroom with cathedral ceilings, and old garage remodeled; but at the other end of the house is my daughter. I had thought perhaps I could light the briquettes in my bedroom in a fire burner with newspaper, open window and fan going until the smoke went out, then take it into a really small walk in closet with just room enough for me to lie down beside it, now just grey. I am a bit worried that the ceiling rises up from regular height to the cathedral; yet it is still a very tight and small area with no openings. I put the briquettes in a pail (steel?) 2 KG. I couldn't burn them outdoors because I have neighbors, if they saw smoke they may call the fire department; in my room it could be invisible in the dark to anyone in the house or outside, I hope? When the house is absolutely asleep I would lock the door and windows with a note not to enter without assistance. Can anyone tell me, please, if this sounds reasonable?

I have been reading this CO site for months, but fear so much getting it wrong. Some of the information, complete directions step by step seem to be missing now. I also wonder if I must remove all the clothes, bags, shoes, etc. from the closet. Thanks yall
