I understand about not being able to quiet those thoughts. I have severe anxiety and scarcely sleep and when I do, it's only for maybe a couple hours at a stretch and the 'sleep' is poor quality. I also feel nauseated a lot so being awake alone all night especially sucks. I wish everyone having trouble sleeping, a night of good rest.

Same, I stopped going to class for a week because I couldn't bear to interact with all those humans anymore and now I'm essentially tuned to japanese timezone (I live in france) so I wake up at 5 pm and start feeling tired at 6 am.
The good part is that I get to be as lonely as is feasible in a student residence.

That's why I have an arsenal of sleeping pills. Personally, I find Unisom, which is OTC, just about as good as Xanax and better than non-benzo prescrption sleeping pills (Ambien, etc).

I can't sleep most nights but what I do is just stay up and play my guitar til I get tired enough. I don't have it tonight so I'm just up on my phone trying not to go insane but seemingly failing.
