Being kept here because they cant open their minds that sometimes suicide is a rational choice a person does not have to be mentally ill or physically sick to want to end their life. I have no intention of starting again and going through years of trying to pick up the pieces. It annoys him i dont fit into one of his bloody boxes.

I believe that suicide can be a rational choice but they all tell me different and say it's because I'm unwell.

It is no different than people being good people based on a magic man in the sky who created all things and can see all things and all choices you will ever make.

Depression and suicidal thoughts are as irrational and illogical as they come. You can feel the emotions just the same, but the reason behind them doesnt have to be something tangible. Suicide can be considered making a logical choice, based on illogical feelings. To make a concious effort to end suffering, nothing is illogical or irrational about that. Period.

First tell me how living is more rational than dying? If we end up dying anyway and it'll be like we were never here to begin with then why hasten the suprise? How is working your only life away following the same life script bullshit day after day just so at the end of the day you still end up with nothing and feel like a used condom? It's like rich people who no matter how much they have they'll never be able to negotiate their way out of death. The only things that are certain in life and the future is suffering, taxes and death. So why not just skip all this bullshit and get this charade over with? Whether you die now or in 80 years makes no difference. It's all a pointless sham and any actual 'sane' people would look at this world and decide to throw it in the trash.

I think it can be rational, definitely (not all suicides are, though). If living has negative utility, according to your personal utility function, death is the rational choice (in my case I still enjoy a few things in life, but the overall feeling is negative).

The people who say suicide is never rational are usually the least rational people in my experience.

Theoretically life itself isn't really rational but a chance scenario caused by the entropy of the universe. Time as we experience it is just a fleeting blip, hardly significant in the grand scheme of things. Someday the universe will reach maximum entropy and life will no longer be able to be possible. But there's probably multipule universes parallel to each other where things might be different. We will never have all the answers, but life is a ride and death is getting off the ride so that's the only rationality I need.

It can be. If you're suffering from either some illness (physical or mental) or have something else going on and it's not going to improve, then why should you have to keep on living? If you simply don't enjoy life, isn't it more irrational to keep living just because of society?

Just find it so backward that someone who only knows about your life based on notes written by others can decide your want for suicide is irrational and therefore can infact take away the few things you have left and keep you in a hospital.

can suicide be irrational?

Sure it can: "My boyfriend/girlfriend left me for that bitch: I'll slash my wrists myself so he'll regret it."

Although maybe I'm being judgmental...

wrist cutter never die anyways..

Sometimes they do. And sometimes they try a cry for helping using hanging, and die by mistake. That's always a tragedy.

Yes. Life is hard and death is easy. Why go through 50+ years of life when you know it's going to be full of hardship. Death is such an easy way out in a harsh world.

When it comes to suicide, I really don't understand society. People are accepting of a person religious beliefs, their political views, their sexuality etc. So why is a person who has made to decision to exit this world considered irrational. I have illnesses that I have to deal with on a daily basis. Wanting to exit and escape my medical problems seems pretty rational to me. Making a decision to end life did not come easy nor did I just wake up one day and decide to exit. I have given it much thought and did a lot of reading before reaching decision to leave on my terms. I don't believe that an irrational person would be able to put a lot of thought into what suicide entails. Yes irrational people do commit suicide, but so do rational people.

Simply because the majority of people don't suffer what you suffer. Pay no heed to those who say suicide is irratoinal, because at the end of the day, they just don't have a frame of reference; no perspective; they are just naive, not malicious.

If you want to commit suicide there are three reasons:

You have a chronic illness
You are mentally ill
You are too old

If you dont fit into one of these three, youre either not serious about suicide and see it as a fantasy or youre lying to yourself.

If this is not satire, fuck you! I hate sanctimonious, self-righteous people who decide what are the valid reasons for suicide.

Some people get lucky and have a pretty decent life. Atleast the average person's life in America is decent.

I think my intentions are rational on the contrary to what people believe I am not depressed. I have had depression before and I am not depressed now I just think suicide is the only rational choice since I can´t work because of a throat problem but the doctors don´t recognize that as serious enough so I can´t get disability pay for that so what are my choices? I can´t get money because I can´t work and I can´t get money from the government so the only logical reason is to suicide. But of course if anyone mention that they want to kill themselves they must have depression or there must be something wrong in their heads but it doesn´t have to.

Im baffled. Whats wrong with what I said? All I see is insults and "youre wrong" but no counter arguments
This is why I don't post much. It's so easy to start a fight. I can't be bothered having to defend myself because of something I said and I 'm not doing it now either
