I think butane-propane is used for cooking or heating

I don't believe so. Most use nitrogen, helium or argon. Just go with the tried and true.

I only have access to that. I know of cases that use it in closed rooms

Are you short on money? If you have some money you can check out welding supply shops. It won't be suspicious if you get nitrogen or argon as both are used in either mig welding or tig welding respectively
Or if you're looking for a different gaseous method, I don't know a whole lot about it and it doesn't seem to be on this forum, but there are halon fire extinguishers, can be very deadly and very quick. Also not difficult to purchase.
