Hi, I am able to jump of my balcony and land on solid concrete. I live on the tenth floor. I can also nose dive and land head first. Will this work? What are the chances of failing? Thanks.

I personally would not risk it but that is because I had a failed attempt with something else that I was nearly certain would kill me but instead just left me with injuries. If you are able to land on your head (is it possible to assure this?) then it would definitely work. You would die if you fell head-first into solid concrete from the second floor probably. And I guess statistics would say you are likely (almost certain?) to die. Then again, people have survived higher falls... I really hope that if you do get to the stage where you feel like you have to jump, that it will not be unfortunate

Sounds like it'd work but it depends how you land. I'm my opinion it'd be really hard to overcome the survival instinct and jump, and I'm not sure if I'd like the chances of surviving and being in lots of pain or being paralysed. The choice is yours though, sending hugs

I think Rick Genest fell from the 3rd floor.

Solid concrete? I would say:

99%

1%
It's only 98% for 100m so the odds that he'll be paralysed etc are a lot more likely. I wouldn't do it unless I was a very good diver

I heard of people surviving a jump from the Golden Gate (~ 70m). But I don't know if it's true.

It is true people have survived but it's water. Normally hard impact on water makes the water hard like concrete but not always. In this case, its certainly concrete and higher chance of dying I believe.

I can get to the 18th floor. Will that do?
This will do. But be very careful not to fall on someone. Jump in the early-morning hours between 3-5 am.

Avoid landing on you feet at all costs.

See that excerpt from Geo Stone's book I posted.150 metres or even 500 metres is better. Sorry. Just don't land on your feet !

No no no. Tenth floor is not high enough for a guaranteed dead.

It depends how you land, so if you're trying to do it for real, you may want to go higher. :/

Generally the higher the better... there is no one answer to this, as there are just too many variables to consider for each case, including a person's condition, what they might accidentally hit on the way down etc. The most important thing is how you land. People have died from very short falls because they hit their heads on concrete but people have also miraculously survived very high falls. Some people have died on impact, some later, some not at all. I guess luck plays a big role in this. Jumping from 46 metres (which is equated to around 10-15 storeys) is said to be 95% to 98% fatal, though I wouldn't count on this too much

According to Kevin Briggs (California highway patrol) 1 to 2% survive the jump from the Golden Gate Bridge. Since its opening in 1937 approximately 1600 people jumped to their death.
The following ted talk is very pro life, but maybe of interest to some.

You need at least 150 ft, better 200.
I don't know how many stories this is

I work in metric so 150 ft is about 46m. I wouldn't have thought that'd be enough.
