I am going to try to explain this the best I can

If I fail an attempt and was transferred to the emergency room, can they force me to go into a psychiatric hospital? In other words, if I am told to go to a psychiatric hospital, can I say no? I am an adult meaning I can consent for myself if that makes sense.

Probably you can avoid being sent to the psychiatric ward but the present society is kinda crazy so they might ignore your request and deny you of your rights and send you there anyways..

Yes, they can, if there is reason to believe you are a danger to yourself and/or others. And this is very likely after a failed suicide attempt.

I didn't even get my attempt and got forcibly sent to a psych ward. it's likely that if you attempt, fail and wind up in an emergency room that you will be taken to a psych ward even if you refuse.
I am from the United States. Do you know if they do it there?
definitely in the US, yes.

That is just stupid. As an adult, you should be able to deny it. Every single hospital I have ever been to made me feel worse when I got out.

yeah you should be able to, but as soon as you have a strong enough desire to CTB you are by default not considered of sound mind. my report literally says I lack the insight to fully comprehend the seriousness of my depression. I damn well do comprehend it- I want out.

I'm sorry your experience with psych wards have been so bad. in my experience, they're a mixed bag. the one I'm in currently isn't so bad

❌Whenever a doctor, therapist or any other medical professional thinks you are suicidal, they can admit you to psych ward, regardless of the age.
So be careful what you say to your doctor or therapist.

Seems really unfair to send you there against your will. May I ask what method did you try and how did you fail?

I haven't attempted it yet. I just want to be prepared for the worst-case scenario. I have a couple of methods in mind, but I am just researching before doing anything.

Depends, I think, on the country.

Now here in the U.S. some. a lot of the times no. case in point, after my car crash, I went to the medical clinic for a post-crash check up and said that the depression was worse because of the pain associated with everything. The next thing was me being escorted to the emergency department, then to the psych ward. After about an hour I said that I was going home, because I saw no need to stay there.

Well, that was a VERY dumb move on my part. One of the medical folks called the local court and, in a flash, got a 72 hour hold on me, which turned into a week stay.

So, from my experience, if the powers that be even have a fleeting thought of anything, a 72-hour hold awaits a person, at least in the U.S

In Germany, admission against the patient's will is only possible (but then mandatory) if there is an acute and significant danger to self or others and there is no other way to protect the patient or his environment. If the ill person still refuses, then the doctor/therapist must apply to the relevant district court for placement in a closed psychiatric ward. This happens very quickly, within just a few hours. If the district court judge approves, the person in question can be taken there, even against his or her will and if necessary under police escort.

In the US you can be sent to the psych ward for just telling someone that you are suicidal - even if you haven't made an attempt. They can get an emergency court order that lets them hold you in a psych ward involuntarily for at least 72 hours.

You can't refuse even if you are an adult. They automatically assume that you aren't in your right mind and unable to make even basic decisions for yourself if you start talking about suicide.

@Sapphire: i think that depends on the state. each one will have different mandates

but if you appear to be emotional, that make it worse for you regardless of where you live. please stay calm. pleading will get you more time in custody.
