I've decided the plate, time and the method, but I've been considering calling the suicide hotline right before. Part of me out of curiosity and the other part hopping I can get some sort of miracle help that somehow fixes everything.
I've heard a few stories of people who call the suicide hotline being arrested or have the police show up at their doorstep. I'm scared that would happen to me. I would probably call a UK number from another european country, but I'm still scared. Any advice?

Are you unsure about ctb and you are hoping they will help convince you one way or another?

Edited to add: it depends what you want to achieve.

I don't think you should. I've read nothing but negativity over the years about suicide hotlines. People even mentioned it made them feel even worse, that they felt like they were being treated like a 'product' getting standard responses.

I want to do it, but I was never much of a person to call for help. I'm curious to see what all the fuss is all about, and maybe to feel a bit less lonely.

That's what I'm curious about. I want to know what they say, listen to both sides before I make a permanent choice.

That's definitely the right choice. You're right.

I would suggest you do not, there's a very good chance your call will be traced and relayed to the authorities.

Symptoms of yew poisoning include an accelerated heart rate, muscle tremors, convulsions, collapse, difficulty breathing, circulation impairment and eventually cardiac arrest. However, there may be no symptoms, and if poisoning remains undetected death may occur within hours.[30] Fatal poisoning in humans is very rare, usually occurring after consuming yew foliage. The leaves are more toxic than the seed.[31]

I don't think you're fully committed if you're even remotely considering something like this.
Even if you call someone who couldn't possibly send the cops over, you'll still be distracted at a moment where you need to be as clear headed as possible. Consider that, if you have still have these thoughts, ctb might not be best for you and maybe give recovery another shot.

I think then it's a good idea to engage with the idea of talking with someone now - while you're still in a receptive frame of mind.

You sound to me like you have really got your head screwed on properly and you're not lashing out impulsively but you've thought this through calmly which is good.

Now is really a good time, a while before you attempt to talk to someone about how you are feeling. As you say, it will be too late once you've taken the yew poison. Who do you have to talk things through with? Eg a counsellor? Or therapist? Xxx

I don't recommend doing that especially with a method that takes considerable time (isn't instantaneous and also isn't really, really reliable compared to N, firearms, jumping from an extreme height, etc.), as you will likely end up in a worse situation if you fail. I've read and see too many instances of people having bad experiences with said hotline (not limited to reddit stories, news stories, even pranksters in YT who pull that stunt (don't do that though)). There is too much risk, the cards are stacked against you, and with a method like that, I would just not chance it.

If you are having second thoughts or doubts, then do consult us here as we are more empathetic and understanding, much less judgmental than the vast majority of the world.

I have no idea what I was trying to accomplish really years ago, wasnt in my right head is what I know.
I wanted to talk to someone kind before I went so I left my pill piles where Id grouped them all weird and called.
That lady asked me to write out a suicide note and I wasnt entirely sure even who to write it to in that state. I got paranoid at the knocking on my door and yep, police let themselves in. Im not sure what happened to my call after that.
They went around my place, checked closets (I assume for weapons?) And bagged up my pills. They let me have a final smoke outside which was nice, took three of them surrounding me though which was weird.
After a long wait in hospital I had to get changed, was put in a gown, argued about my necklace, and was discharged after a psychiatrist told me that I didnt want to die, I just wanted my life to change.

That's my experience with a likely non letal amount of pills and calling a kind lady at a hotline. I cant say exactly what would happen for you

Might be best to call them before you're set to go. Maybe you'll find the helo you're looking for. If you call them in the moment, at least in the US they might send the police for a "wellness check" which could easily end up in a 72 hour psych hold for you.

I've called them before. When I mentioned I wanted to overdose, the police showed up at my door. They didn't show up any of the other times. You could be admitted to the mental hospital if you state you have a plan, especially if they find you mid-attempt. But if you just want help, just call them up, and don't mention you have a plan.

Hi @Pedrester how are you doing now?
Thanks for checking in :), I've been trying to keep myself away from here, but still comeback from time to time. I'm still not sure about suicide, and the advice everyone gave here surely helped, but I still don't know. What about you, how are you doing?

That's good that you are still around :-)
And I think probably half the world aren't sure about suicide! It's a big step. Always remember that you can commit suicide any time you like but you can't reverse that!! So if things are going ok it's worth hanging on a bit. If you excuse the pun ;-)

It's been warm and sunny here in the usually damp and grey country of the UK this last week so I have been enjoying the sunshine
:-)

I love all summery things like the smell of cut grass and stuff like that. Do you have a favourite time of year?

Hey there, @Pedrester. I'm not sure either. Witnessing the DSMO SN attempts the last few days has been chilling. That was my plan. I'm glad you are taking time to make the best decision for you.

If you don't want to be supported or talked out of it, leave the hotline to deal with those who do.

I agree but also mainly because (depending on your method) it is likely they will save you mid-attempt or if you somehow fail, you will be saved and then locked up against your will, thus making things even worse than it already is. Hell, I don't think I would tell anyone (not family, not friends, nor anyone IRL) when I'm ready to go, unless I have a delayed method of contacting them and also know that I will follow through successfully.

The hotlines are simply there as a port in a storm for people who are anxious and unsure. They are not there to do anything other than listen. They will only sent help if you ask for it. They are designed to be supportive in a passive way allowing people to make their own decisions - the theory being that people who call and wish to engage in conversation would like to have another chance at life first.

I called a hotline last week and they told me they had to contact the cops. Luckilly, I have a burner phone so they couldn't track me. Don't do hotlines kids, they'll get you locked up if you're not careful.

Whew you really avoided a prison cell there. My therapist recommended the hotline to me too, but I doubt I'll ever use it for this exact reason.

I did this exact thing....looking for a reason or some miracle. It isn't worth it. I mean, think about it. Chances are high that the person on the other end does nothing have a clue what your feeling, they wouldn't be working there if they were suicidal. They will NOT let you talk about killing yourself, why you want to kill yourself or how your going to do it. They will not let you marinate in your sorrows or pains. They will do what they are sure to do.... try to help you change your mind. I'm not saying don't call, you might hear something you need to hear or think about, self deliverance is always on your schedule... 10 minute phone conversation with a stranger can be comforting. Be careful what you say if you don't want someone showing up at you your door.
