Discussion Calling the samaritans

I call them every now and again. I don't expect them to help and they do not offer advice. Nor have they judged me in any way. They just listen. It really accomplishes nothing except a distraction for an hour or so. Much like posting on here. I've talked to some really nice people. One chap even let me go away to go to the loo and get food and come back again for round 2! Though one woman couldn't even manage half an hour talking to me. I do get sick of trying to explain my situation to different people and it IS a pity party.

Thoughts? Experiences?

I have spoken with them many times over the years. The volunteers do vary a bit but mostly, they've been kind, non judgemental and respectful. I think they're a brilliant organisation. It's a shame they they're needed but I'm really glad that they are there

In August 2018, when I was feeling particularly suicidal, I emailed the Samaritans once a day for almost two weeks. Not only were they prompt in their replies, they were also quite helpful to me. Also, they helped me even though I do not live in the UK (I live in the US).

I've never had contact with them but I feel u about having to tell ur story over and over. I have never been able to find a good therapist and I'm tired of telling my story repeatedly! it makes me feel worse like I'm reliving it. And they ask stupid intake questions that I don't kno the answer to so I end up guessing. Like how old was I when I smoked my first cigarette and what brand was it lol Fuck! Lol I don't log my actions and I have a bad memory. And all the shit they ask is irrelevant to my problems that I'm experiencing TODAY so by the end of the appointment Ive talked about my depressing past and still have my current issues. And it costs $45! What a deal lmao. Ok rant over!

Wow.. I would rather spend those $45 on fuel to find a decent remote place to ctb :)
