Butane Stove

I have a camping butane stove, will this release carbon monoxide? If so, how small of a space would I need to use it in to be effective and how long does it need to be lit for?
Alternatively, can I just burn some wood and coal in a metal bucket?

I have looked into this a while back. Not much info is available on it. I haven't read of anyone dying from it.
