Everything I need to CTB has arrived, but I decided to give life one more shot, just a few months most, and see if things get better. Here is my go, please recommend any books you feel have helped you recover.

Everything I need to CTB has arrived, but I decided to give life one more shot, just a few months most, and see if things get better. Here is my go, please recommend any books you feel have helped you recover.

I read speculative fiction, such as science fiction and fantasy, as it helps me escape everyday life and rediscover my sense of wonder. Not sure if it's your cup ot tea.

Yeah, I find fiction helps me escape too, focuses the mind. Not always easy though.

I have always loved books with a passion big time and is a good escape, sadly now in so much pain with body and also so empty with grief............I just cant seem to enjoy a book even:'(

Personally I feel this talk helps me. She also wrote a small but intense book callled The misfit manifesto which expands on the themes of the talk and which I'm just rereading. I wish to read more from her

I recommend picking up a copy of Johann Hari's 'Lost Connections: Uncovering the real causes of depression'. It puts depression in a social context.

Crucial Conversations.

I'm still keeping my bus ticket on me for personal reasons but this book really opened my perspective on better communication. I struggled with being overly passionate yet misunderstood so this helped me course correct with trying to articulate my thoughts and goals more efficiently.
Never had a problem listening and empathasing with others, but it took me a while to realize how to better get others to listen and understand me instead of hoping for the best through mindreading my actions.

Still very very VERY much a work in process person, but I personally found this book eye opening. Thanks for starting this thread, looking forward to others' suggestions.

The Tao te Ching helps me when I'm having a really shit day. I read one or two lines randomly and just think about them, to keep my mind at ease. I don't treat the Tao te ching as a religious text, but as a book of philosophy and wisdom. It has really helped me. For a book on fiction I would definitely recommend brave new world by Aldous Huxley :)

I was always a big reader, always had a book in hand, but it's something that has left me recently, this current downward spiral has robbed me of my concentration to read.

For One More Day by Mitch Albom. It details suicide a bit in the beginning but it reminded me to be grateful for the people in my life.

Mostly I escape into fiction to help when things are dark.

I have also found that survival non-fiction helps: Joe Simpson's "This Game of Ghosts" was my introduction to this genre. Riveting!

"Step Back From the Exit" helped me avoid ctb when I still had a family, but I can't say that I agreed with all the author's rationales.

Yeah I had that. I'm lucky just a few days ago after hitting bottom and the shock made me go out with my family and have a drink. For some weird reason the next day I put my phone in another room while I went to bed ad spent the whole 12 hours that night staring at nothing and woke up the calmest I've been in ages.

as for books, I really have liked recently.. for philosophy and meaning - The Conspiracy Against the Human Race, The Trouble With being Born.. Cioran gives serious views about how we fail and why to laugh at life's craziness while also hating pretty much all of society. I use audiobooks a lot, I last listened to 12 Rules for Life and have been recommended a couple Buddhist ones by audible. For pleasure Lovecraft.

Right now I am praying for the focus to read a whole chapter of this book tonight :D I got it when collecting are vintage or nice covers - Adding some fiction inti my schedule -Worlds End by T.C. Boyle.

reading is so good just always take it slow and read once a day i would rec. Be a minimalist, one page a week is better than nothing and work on checking what you are into =reading a book you'll actually look forward to! And mix it up, don't read two heavy ones in a row.

It's not actually a book but I feel maybe some of these articles and videos could be a general helpful resource and psychological support https://www.theschooloflife.com/thebookoflife/
I initally was drawn to The school of life because of the very tasteful presentation of their materials, the wide range of topics and them not forcifully trying to cheer you up (actually often they don't really pretend to give you solutions) and not being garish like I felt other self-help resources are

1) Eckhart Tolle - The Power Of Now (very deep book)
2) Dale Carnegie - Stop Worrying And Start Living (if you like some oldschool authors)
3) Amy Newmark and Claire Cook - Chicken Soup For The Soul (many short great stories about kindness and love)
4) Ray Bradbury - Dandelion Wine (a peaceful novel)
5) Any book of Robin Sharma
Two first helped me in recover process. Others just recommended. :hug:
