BEWARE OF GUNSHOTS !!!
I am begging members here to realize that shooting doesn't always happen as it does in the movies. I have a. 38 caliber revolver and hollow point bullets but I would never rely on that. My research has uncovered too many people with half of a face left from shooting themselves. My choice is nitrogen. I only posted this because I have never seen a real testimonial from a group that large. That's true , seen a lot of people on documentaries that survived that type of injury.
My .38 revolver has a 5 lb pull for a trigger. I use 2 hands holding it at the gun range. It is way too easy to aim it straight but pulling the trigger so it angles up and into a path that misses the vital area.I flinch way too easily to use a gun.
I do kind of wonder how you shoot yourself in the temple and end up with only minor issues.
Those pictures are what I am talking about! I would love to know that it was foolproof using a gun. I have had my revolver for 6 years with a permit to carry in my ankle holster but after researching and seeing the failures (and distorted faces I want to be clear.. it is not a sure thing.Yeah, I have read that it should be positioned carefully.
I have also heard rumors that there are some pretty awful photos of people who have lost their faces in gunshots and survived. I don't dare to look.
The pictures are after the person had been stitched back together. They look like terribly stitched cabbage patch dolls. As in... They walk into a restaurant and people would cringe and look away. Please just be aware of this when you think of ctb.Yeah, I have read that it should be positioned carefully.

I also wonder if it depends on bullet sizes and the type of gun used, but I don't know.I am begging members here to realize that shooting doesn't always happen as it does in the movies. Yup.. Not much question about a shot gun.. But hand guns??? Not foolproof by any means... Especially if you have no experience. It's just a matter of caliber/potency, I would say, without knowing jack shit of the matter. I have seen videos where the head is simply emptied like a balloon by a shotgun.
Yeah, I think the risk of surviving increases by a lot when it is someone with no experience or prior training with guns who attempts with a gun. I have very rarely seen failures from those in professions where they are highly trained in using guns.Yup.. Not much question about a shot gun.. But hand guns??? Not foolproof by any means... There has been instance, a decent amount even where the indivdual has survived shotgun and merely is put on life support/having blown there face off. Is there anything that increases certainty/lethality?Yup.. Not much question about a shot gun.. But hand guns??? Not foolproof by any means... Especially if you have no experience.
Ok, this thread sent me down a rabbithole of trying to find pics like this, and I ended up coming across this fascinating article:The pictures are after the person had been stitched back together. It's a fair and true thread, the consequences if you survive probably aren't good and will make things worse, but I have no idea about guns.I am begging members here to realize that shooting doesn't always happen as it does in the movies. No method truly is, but I do think it's one of the better ones if done right. If you have doubts, then yes, don't use a gun.Like @LeavingForever said, it's just so brutal and violent. People need to realize that shooting yourself is not simply a quick, painless and easy way to kill yourself.
Yes, and one more important thing I want to note, every single one of these stories I'm reading where they survived it says they shot themselves under the chin. PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT SHOOT YOURSELF UNDER THE CHIN. Like you said, it it critical that it's done right. No method truly is, but I do think it's one of the better ones if done right. Exactly and this guy was lucky there was a suitable face available when he needed it!!Ok, this thread sent me down a rabbithole of trying to find pics like this, and I ended up coming across this fascinating article:
Man left with just a forehead, eyeballs and tongue reveals incredible recovery
Cameron Underwood has had a ground-breaking face transplant after he shot himself in the face.metro.co.uk
The guy in this article does look incredible after, I imagine most people who try to blow their brains out and happen to survive probably don't have access to such advanced surgeries. Also interesting to note, it sounds like his face donor actually did kill himself
Yeah, I would never in a million years consider a firearm suicide. It's so gruesome for whoever finds you too. Like @LeavingForever said, it's just so brutal and violent. People need to realize that shooting yourself is not simply a quick, painless and easy way to kill yourself.
That is amazing... He was very lucky he had an eye left! There was a huge American football player, Aaron Hernandez, he shot this guy right in the eye and left him to die in the streets. He survived and called him the next day for revenge. Ended up with a fake eye and some plastic skin around the whole. He's lucky he was able to be ok after that. Just the eye he lost.
Excellent point!! You're right... a number of people I have heard of think that's a good way to do it!! Very wrong!Yes, and one more important thing I want to note, every single one of these stories I'm reading where they survived it says they shot themselves under the chin. He testified in court and all. He got life without parole for another 2 crimes, ctb by hanging shortly after. A 50 million dollar player. Sigh…Exactly and this guy was lucky there was a suitable face available when he needed it!!

I wonder if there's a study out there that shows which way of shooting yourself is shown the most in film and TV. When I try to recall scenes it's mostly in the temple but these people must have gotten the chin idea from somewhere.Excellent point!! Temple is notoriously bad area to shoot yourself despite the many depictions in media. I cannot find the stats but I haven't really heard of anyone surviving by putting a shotgun to the roof of their mouth? Keep in mind I'm not meaning the chin.View attachment 86761

From what I have heard you are supposed to aim for the brainstem, there's a thread about it here somewhere but I've mostly just heard about it anecdotallyTemple is notoriously bad area to shoot yourself despite the many depictions in media. That's what I always read and heard. From what I have heard you are supposed to aim for the brainstem, there's a thread about it here somewhere but I've mostly just heard about it anecdotally
I think trying to do that is very awkward.. no matter what you are aiming at. Wish it worked.. but I don't trust it.Would gripping the handgun's barrel with one hand help prevent the upward flinch?
