I will list all the benefits of having suicide legalized here.

(Some of this is kind of meant to be funny, but also true nevertheless.)
Having pro-choice clinics pop up for suicide is a good form of natural selection. So that only the best people will pass down their genes to the next generation. And in turn the next generation will be less likely to want to commit suicide because the previous generation didn't pass down those suicide genetics.

One can plan their exit from life. And have family and friends there for support. It can be a celebration of their life and their return to peace.

There will be less suffering. Not only because people will end it peacefully before it gets too bad but there will be free suicide clinics available to give people suicide that will be painless, thus preventing them from doing very degrading types of suicide like jumping in from a train bus, jumping out of a window, hanging, drinking dirty water, and putting their head in the microwave etc. (Two people recently actually posted about those last two methods here.)

There will be less mass shooting because these people will end it before taking their anger out on others.

People will be more loving and caring to others because they know their actions and words really can lead others people really to suicide.

There will be less hospitalizations for mental illness thus bringing down the cost of healthcare and taxes, which will help our GDP and make our country look better compared to other countries.

We would have ended one of the most indirectly barbaric laws of our time.

People with illness or terminal illness can exit life so that we don't have to pay taxes pumping them up with morphine.

Crime rate would lower because criminals with mental issues would just end.

People injured at war or on the job like football players, construction workers, policemen, firefighters, those with disabilities can end their suffering.

It will be a boon to the economy because people that are a drain on resources, taking up space, and money can stop doing that, and do what they do best, being nothing.

People in hospices exit life so that they don't have to get up and play bingo anymore with everyone.

People with mental illnesses can exit life thus relieving the us, the tax payers from paying for their medicine.

The homeless will commit suicide because they will they don't like the rich.

If anyone else can think of anything to add please do.

I agree with everything, and if you run for presidential elections I vote for you :)

(By the way, Nietzsche shared your first thesis).

I would add a more obvious but nonetheless indisputable argument : we have not asked to live, so it is unfair that we are forced to live. The authorized suicide would allow us to live by choice and not by constraint (same difference between a love story and a rape ...).

I can see the boardrooms of the Suicide Booth manufacturers after this has been legal and privatised for 5 years or so:
"Not enough people are killin' 'emsleves, and well, we just 'aint makin' the money the shareholders expect, we need a Superbowl Ad, get me Beyonce..."

Your post, @GeorgeJL , reminded me of the documentary How to Die in Oregon about that state's "Death with Dignity Act". Not too long after they legalized physician assisted suicide, the insurance companies started sending out notices to people with serious diseases that they would no longer cover treatment and they suggested the person look into "Death with Dignity." In other words, insurance companies were telling people to go kill themselves because their lives weren't worth saving. Oregon quickly had to make another law to safeguard people from this.

I find your post good brainstorming for the Pandora's Box that would inevitably open.

You can actually CTB while still somewhat young and functional instead of laying in a bed 24/7 with a fragile body, barely able to speak or think, suffering from 5 billion diseases with family members you barely even know stalkingly staring at you and holding your hand like some obsessed GF for hours on end until you finally go to sleep and fucking die.

It will benefit the environment.

On average one person per year tosses around 1361 pounds of trash, produces 1 ton of carbon dioxide and uses 36 500 gallons of water . Allowing people to end their lives will reduce the amount of waste being produced on planet earth thus reducing contamination and leaving more resources available for the ones who actually want to live and actively contribute to society. Specifically when natural resources are becoming scarse

'The best people' is relative: now it's usually the case that the poor and poorly educated have more children even though they clearly can't even get themselves out of poverty first or unto the road to a degree. Secondly a lot of people only kill themselves after they've reproduced.

I don't see why criminals would suddenly decide to off themselves in great numbers. If they have mental issues you'd think they'd be of the more antisocial kind, i.e directing violence against others rather than themselves.

The biggest advantage of legalizing humane suicide would be a sharp decline in unbearable, unresolvable suffering. If not completely dissapearing: who'd want to suffer needlessly in that condition when an easy, certain exit under medical supervision would be available?

so will keeping it in our pants. I hve 3 kids but when I had my kids we weren't as aware about these issues. I think you should be allowed I child at most and after said child both male and female are fixed immediately. less population less pollution. and you can also test people around puberty and only the best physical or smart people can produce, or screw that just have test tube babies no mother no father just perfect babies in an institution, scrap that sterilize everyone and make androids

You pretty much summed up all the ones I can think of. The one regarding the homeless wouldn't just include being mad at the rich, but also to escape a cycle of poverty and suffering on the streets until disease, violence, the elements, or other causes take their life.

Population control.

All natural methods of population control are being combated. Wars are becoming more efficient so less people die. Disease is being tackled by medicine. At least we have climate change - maybe that will redress the balance :pfff:

I for one am convinced it would be better if humanity would gradually phase itself out. I don't see the need to produce robots when the goal is to eradicate the human race by sterilization.

I don't think we need to eradicate the human race . I think it should be decreased to only 1 million people in areas spread apart of 100,000. people each I case of disaster and disease. have androids to do a lot of the work and have the earth be 90 % natural no human footprint

Humans will always suffer and will certainly taste death: I really don't see the upside to that. Even when life would be a lot better than it is now for most people. Life is nothing but DNA replicating and nature does not care about the individuals that make up the species. We chase dopamine, suffer, dream of being happy and no matter what we do sooner or later we all end up in the graveyard.
