After doing a considerable amount of research I have come to the following conclusions in reference to using barbituates to catch the bus.
Although it appears to be the most desireable, peaceful and cleanest way it is not without multiple drawbacks as far as accessability.
A. Nembutal is no longer manufactured in pill form and appears to be only obtainable as a liquid through veterinary sources. Purchasing it via the internet is basically impossible,
you will simply lose your money. Purchasing it through sources in other countries involves costly travel to high risk areas, possibly getting fake product and getting caught smuggling it back home. Risk versus return is off the charts.
B. Seconal pills are still manufactured by one company. Obtaining a functional amount requires either world class doctor manipulation or familiarity with specific underground sources which most people don't have. Also the current price for legally prescribed has gone through the roof.
C. Butalbital is no longer manufacured as a stand alone product. It is available combined with acetominophen and caffeine. The combined product is still being prescribed as a migraine medication. It is only moderately difficult to find internet sources being that it is a non scheduled product. The issue here is the ratio in the combined product involves ingesting massive amounts of the unwanted substances which would most likely still get the job done although it would probably not be pleasant or peaceful.
This brings us to attempting to extract the butalbital from the combined product. Below are posted 2 methods found on the internet. The first one, known as cold water extraction removes the acetominophen but not the caffeine and seems to be straight forward and simple.
The second method involves using caustic chemicals and is lacking in specificity in reference to amounts. It also initially totally contradicts the first method as it instructs you to dispose of the filtered water and keep the residue whereas the first method infers the butalbital is disolved in the water and to dispose of the residue. It also leaves open the possibilty of ingesting some of the caustic substances.
Is anyone aware of clear specific instructions inclusive of proper safety precautions for this extraction?
Method 1
1. Crush the tablets into a fine powder. Minimize powder loss.
2. Dissolve the powder into warm water. Get hot water from the tap (NOT too hot!), as boiling water may destroy the opioid. Put the water in a container/bowl with a wide surface area, which allows the mixture to cool faster. Add the powder you crushed to about 1/2 cup water.
3. Let the mixture sit and cool to room temperature on the counter for about 10-20 minutes. Stir it every few minutes until it is completely dissolved.
4. Put the container/mixture into the freezer until cold. No need for a lid on the container. Leave it sit until it is extremely cold to the touch. Do not let it freeze or ice up! This process might take 20-25 minutes.
5. Filter your mixture. Use a pre wet coffee filter, cheesecloth, or even an aeropress. A handkerchief might work as well if you don't have any of those. Put the filter over the top of a cup and secure it with a rubber band or tape. SLOWLY pour the mixture into the filtered cup. Do not pour in too much water or touch the filter, as you may break it and have to redo the filtering.
6. When it appears like the filter is done dripping into the cup and there is nothing left to filter, you will then have a dense, marshmallow-like substance. You may choose to squeeze the contents of the old filters through a new filter to save any remaining moisture. Careful not to spill! You may also add more water to the marshmallow mash and re-filter it, but this step isn't necessary. As the APAP/ibuprofen/aspirin begins to clog the filter ..even if is carefully decanted you might speed things up by doing two separate filtrations simultaneously.
7. Bottoms up! Drink your mixture and throw away the APAP/ibuprofen/aspirin; most should have been successfully removed. The remaining concoction might be really bitter, so try mixing it with something sweet.

It is very easy to extract pure butalbital from Fioricet, and leave out nasty paracetamol and caffeine. Crush up the pills to a fine powder and dissolve them in water, shake the solution for a while so all the caffeine and soluble binders dissolve in the water. Filter the solution and discard the water. Add the remainders to a fresh amount of water and add some lye(sodium hydroxide) and shake well. The butalbital will turn into the water soluble sodium salt and dissolves in the water, the paracetamol stays undissolved, together with the undissolved binders. Filter the solution and keep the solution, discard the filter with the paracetamol and other crap. Now slowly add hydrochloric acid to the solution untill precipitation stops. By adding hydrochloric acid to the sodium butalbital solution the sodium butalbital turns into the unsoluble free base and precipitates. After filtering the solution one is left with practically pure butalbital, free from harmful paracetamol and jittery caffeine, as well as binders!"
