This thread grew out of a conversation with another member where a line from a movie (the title of the movie is the title of the thread) stuck in my head, and seems to apply to this forum, both the Recovery side, as well as SD:
In my case, the line should probably be "You Make Me Feel Like A Natural Woman", but that's a different message, and probably will turn into its own thread.
I won't get into the movie plot, but the line, to me, embodies the best intentions of this website, the effect of increasing our own desire to improve and become better versions of ourselves. I encourage the idea that it applies to those waiting to catch the bus, because I know that the pain-wracked, emotionally volatile, and conversely numb, "I'm going to catch that bus even if I have to throw myself in front of it!" version of me is not my best self, not, "As Good As It Gets". For those who choose to cease to be, the website can offer a place to share experience, strength and hope, to ease and end our suffering, as well as that of those around us. My family does not benefit from the psychotic me who, leaning over the precipice, can't, or won't, let go.
I believe that the informed potential bus rider is a much better version of the person at the bus stop than someone who is screaming, crying, hurting themselves and those around them by lashing out in response to the pain we feel we can no longer stand.
More importantly, SaSu offers that side of our membership the opportunity to find peace, love, and happiness before we finally take our seats.
We can learn how to say our goodbyes, clean up our side of the street, and die with dignity. The experiences of those who have paved the path we now tread are archived in these posts, forever memories to guide those here and those to come.
And, getting back to the R side of the forum, we have an incredible opportunity to find hope, love, and clear directions on how to live, something many of us had (or still have) much difficulty doing.
I found this haven while reading about someone who caught the bus in such an usual way that it garnered international attention, and not in a good way. I wonder if that story would have, could have, turned out differently if she had come here first before taking that last painfully fatal step.
My two-fold goal with this post is to firstly, encourage our newer members to consider the idea that all of us, even those just about to get on the next bus, have something to offer our fellow members. Secondly, I want to thank all those who actively encourage us, especially we new arrivals, that we can be better human beings, thst we already have, just by registering.
Thank you for helping me become as good as I can get.
