I've been vegan for 3 years now, i think the pain in my life has made me more sensitive to the pain of other organisms and I can't bring myself to cause pain to anything

Hmmm... Becoming vegan would probably help me finally defeat that damn survival instinct. Definitely food for thought

How? You'd still be eating
Let's just say that it would be much easier for me to quit eating. Jokes aside, i have IBS & I can't eat beans & most veggies. Meat is the only thing that doesn't give me diarrhea

I need to eat meat or it won't feel like I ate at all. The blood and suffering of another innocent creature just tastes better to me I guess. That's probably why I need to die...

I have tried being vegan and vegetarian, but failed at both, though in theory it feels like it should bother me more when I eat meat.

However, I do find it difficult eating eggs and don't have milk very often - they seem to bother me more than meat.

Much of what I eat is plant-BASED, but I do need my protein (whey + animal sources). It would be a real hassle to get the protein from plants, but I know that it is possible. I also take supplements to get extra vitamins and minerals.

I've been vegan for 16 years. It was harder then but now you can eat so much stuff. I sometimes wonder if how we treat animals is the true test of life. Probably not because if any higher being liked animals, they wouldn't put them through the hell they go through.

Yes. I am an antinatalist, so I feel horrible being even remotely responsible for the creation of life. But generally creating sentient beings just to use, abuse and kill them is so perverse I started to feel sick even just looking at animal products, so I went vegan. It is difficult and relatively expensive (since animal products are so insanely cheap), but when I look at animal products everything that had to happen to create it flashes through my mind and I don't want to eat anymore. The horrific nature of life comes to my mind and I just want to kill myself. Like every damn second I'm unable to distract myself.

I get that DD. I think the absolute cruelty of this world with animals being tortured and humans wanting to kill other humans and inflict such horrid things on people/animals has made me question what this world is about and who's running the show cos if someone is they're a sick MF.

Nah, I simply like meat too much. But since I live in a rural place with lots of farms it is easy to get more ethically sourced meat and I try to do so whenever I can.

I am curious about this, where do you live?

I'm in London, England and I've been vegan for 7 years (had been vegetarian over 30 years prior to that,). I find it massively cheaper than eating animal products, but perhaps it's due to where I live/am shopping, and the fact I generally cook from scratch (no meat or cheese substitutes, mainly Asian/Latin American meals that would traditionally be vegan anyway). I wonder.

Anyway, I would like to be a vegan some day but I don't like many food so, I would certainly have some problems to deal with it.

I eat what grows out of the ground, flies in the sky or swims in the sea (not Octopuses tho), but I do not eat land animals.

I think you're morally superior @esoterispeec for being vegan and you have my respect. I'd like the think if I was happy and not dying soon, I'd attempt veganism, but it'd be easier said than done for sure. x

This is me too. Meat and milk are the only things I can eat that don't cause me pain and nasty side effects. Currently the only reason I eat at all or it would be pain and misery all day.

I wouldn't tell a vegan that they're morally superior (because they're not), that community already has a complex.

Which reminds me, I'm glad to see that this post has had varied and measured responses, since usually nothing good ever comes of a vegan thread on the internet.
It's usually just self congratulatory vegans patting eachother on the backs, believing they've won the "best human" award simply for their diet and vegan lifestyle, some of them-meanwhile-being otherwise nasty individuals who don't give a flying shit about the suffering of their fellow human being.
That's why so many people have problems with that community, hell-even some very nice vegans have problems with other vegans (yes not all vegans act atrociously, some are quite sweet and level-headed.)
Vegetarians get run out of town too, apparently they're not good enough, nor are "reductionists".
Pescatarian? Forget about it, vegans don't like you either, and now that Netflix documentary came out, and they REALLY don't like you.
Veganism has become a cult, unless you are a vegan independent of the online communities, (ever been on r/vegan? Don't.)
...

If you're someone who can manage the diet, I applaud you, but I also don't appreciate when vegans claim that people who can't thrive on the diet are lying or "making up excuses" and they (vegans) back up their claims with biased studies that are orchestrated by vegans, whilst omitting significant information or denying their own hypocrisy in contributing to a carbon footprint (as well as indirectly contributing to the death and destruction of animals and wildlife).
I have been both vegetarian and vegan for extended periods of time (years), and it was not good for my health (to say the least).
Even though I've grown apathetic to the world and all its creatures because of my own suffering, I still do my best not to over-consume or indulge in anything unnecessary that contributes to the mistreatment of animals.
But I'm not perfect by any means.

If people really want to make a difference in human and animal suffering, I would suggest starting with the choice to abstain from bringing any more children into this world. @DisillusionedDragon has the right idea, as far as that goes.

I believe they are morally superior; that's why I said it. You're free to think and express that they aren't.

I see what you're saying, though, about some of the radical vegan activism. It can be toxic and cult-like, and they shouldn't be intolerant of others. I've never seen r/vegan or other online spaces, so I'm just going on the vegans I've met in my life, and they've all been lovely people who are not online cultists.

Like with many communities, the mostly-online radical activists tend to dominate the Discourse and are part of the problem. Fuck off with getting in the face of people eating in restaurants. Intolerance is disgusting.

Vegqnism is supposed to be about compassion for all living creatures.
Humans are living creatures too.
Really pisses me off on the (rare) occasion I encounter I meet someone who says they are vegan but acts without compassion.

Humans making up excuses for not being vegan is just another proof of how terrible we are as species.

I always read such comments as coming from some higher beings who consider humans inferior; as much as we suck, mass breeding and killing us because we are inferior in some ways, taste good, and can't effectively defend ourselves would be evil.

Arguing against veganism is irrational, not being vegan is immoral.

The definition of veganism: "Veganism is a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose."

Vegan nutrition is very hard.

Vegetarian diet is definitely doable in my opinion.

I eat very little meat, very consciously - but fish quite often.

In any case, you should eat consciously.
In my opinion, you shouldn't make a religion out of it.
But I accept every other opinion - it's a very personal decision.
