Anyway to do a test hanging without dying?

I wanna see if I can actually do it just so if one day I'll have to do it, I know I won't have to suffer long. I was thinking of putting my rope around the metal bar that I would use my hang myself, but instead of tying the rope to the bar, I just hold it with my hands meaning if I pass out, I let go of the rope and fall.

This probably shouldn't be off topic, but mistakes were made.
