Nembutal is my preferred method but I have a fear of screwing up and ending up with permanent brain damage. It is hard to find information about successful and unsuccessful attempts. If anyone has information about people who have attempted suicide with Nembutal and the outcome, I would really be interested in learining more. I feel like I can learn from others' stories and hopefully get it right the first time.
Years ago I read articles and listened to podcasts about Erin Berg, an Australian woman with postpartum depression. She traveled to Mexico with the intention of purchasing Nembutal from a pet supply shop and killing herself.
She was found by hotel staff on the floor, blue, and barely breathing. In the room they also found one 100ml bottle of veterinary Nembutal, a bottle of whiskey, a suicide note, and clothes that smelled of vomit.
She was originally in a coma and was on a life support machine in a Tijuana hospital. Her lungs became infected and tracheotomy was performed to help her breathe. Eight days after her overdose she opened her eyes. She was eventually able to communicate by blinking her eyes and nodding. They mention that she had a lung infection. She died 10 days after the overdose and there was no autopsy.
I did some research and found out that common complications of taking an overdose of barbiturates include coma and pneumonia from a depressed gag reflex. I don't have enough details to know what went wrong but it seems that the problem may have been that she only took one bottle, possibly without antiemetics, and vomited part of the dose she did manage to swallow. The article said that she "drank the bottle's contents with a bottle of whisky." It's not clear if she drank an entire bottle of whiskey but maybe the amount of alcohol she took was too much as well.
You can find a photo of Erin in a coma at the hospital and a photo of her siblings holding bottles of Nembutal they got in Mexico to prove how easy it was to obtain. This was back in 2008 so I'm sure it's harder to obtain, especially after Erin's family brought it to the attention of many people in Mexico and abroad.
