Ptsd is one of my biggest issues, i always wonder whats up with that, i've tried to learn as much as possible about it.
there are many different theories on why it manifests but i couldn't find any solution on how to cure it fully.
its hilarious, having a super painful event happening which is bad enough in itself,
but you are being forced to relive it over and over again in your separate, little cut off world.
and you seem to be completely alone in that world, its insane..
so thats my belief on how it develops:
intense, especially negative or threatening experiences are important to your survival system. so it gets stored with a high priority by your brain. your mind associates all the stuf happening or being part of the traumatic experience with the actual event, thus many neurons in the brain store it and link themselves. each time some neurons are being triggered, like seeing a red ball will trigger the neurons related to 'ball', 'red' and so on, linked neurons are also being triggered.
so if you experienced trauma by someone throwing a red ball at you, stuff like balls can trigger your experience and make you relive everything related. this whole concept is backed up by the theory of 'neurons that fire together, wire together'.
so far this all makes sense to me.
so now the part on how to cure it:
this part seems to be very tricky since the neuronal network is super complex. my only theory i would have is to reconnect those traumatic events with positive/neutral other ones.
there is an interesting approach to this, its called 'mdma-therapy'. mdma causes your body to release tons of serotonin and oxitocine. these neurotransmitters leave you feeling like in complete ecstatic bliss. there are 1 or more studies done with that. patients who suffer from ptsd did like 150mg mdma under medical supervision. the patients had psychological support. after the effects started to show up, the patients were told to go to these traumatic events internally. since the patients where ecstatic and fearless, they could easily relive those events. after a few sessions, most of them had at least had significant improvements.
now, this is only one way, but i can confirm empathogens used in a certain way can lead to improvements.
reconnecting the "ptsd" neurons and connections with an ecstatic event creates another link, next times they get triggered you might experience a mdma-flashback, or less intense flashbacks of the traumatic event.
this whole text, except these studies are just my thoughts, believes and experiences on that topic..
i would be very interested in hearing your theories and thoughts about ptsd. i find this is a very interesting topic since it can reveal a lot on how our minds work.
hope this makes sense x3
