Let me burn.

I got my dog when he was 6 weeks old, now he'll be 5 this fall. He's a Husky, so he spends a lot of his time outside. I worry about him so much for when I CTB, this home is all he's ever known and he won't be able to stay here when I'm gone. The same goes for my two cats. However I feel like they may be okay somewhere as they spend most of the time inside. Anyone else worry about their animals? Maybe I'm just crazy.

I definitely worry about my dog. I'm making sure to get him a surgery he needs before I ctb. My mom has promised to keep him if anything ever happens to me but I still worry...I hope maybe he will help mentally because he is such a sweetheart. I feel guilty I adopted him but the year I did I was so close to getting my life together, I had my own home and everything. Sometimes I wonder if ill just exist until he passes because that's what I did with my other dog but he is still young so I can't be sure.

That's the reason why I don't have pets.

I love animals and would have absolutely hated to CTB while my pets were still alive.

However, in general they are a lot more resilient and adaptable than we give them credit for. Obviously there are some exceptions, such as especially neurotic or anxious pets, or ones with complex medical conditions which would make them unlikely to be rehomed. But generally they can cope with settling into a new living arrangement. Often our pets are rescues, and so have already shown themselves to be survivors in the first place.

I'm not trying to downplay anyone's bond with their animals, just pointing out that most of them will land on their feet.

They are my biggest concern. I plan on making arrangements for them, and leaving funding for their care.

I've made sure they'll have a loving home with someone they feel comfortable with.

I don't have responsibility over any animals, but the family I live with does have some pets. While I know that they'll all continue to live here and have food and water when I'm gone, I still feel bad for them because I'm the only one who has really paid attention to them. Some of them clearly love me more than my family, if for no other reason than they know that I'm more receptive to them. I feel bad that they are largely ignored and are bored to tears and that they'll be even more lonely when I'm gone.

You're not crazy. I'm a little worried about my cat as well. He's an indoor cat, but if he finds an open door he'll run away. I'm even more concerned because he gets scared easily. I hope my mother take good care of him once I'm gone.

That was my only concern, and I always made sure I had my pet affairs in order before anything happened. As I were doing things a little while ago where I could have died at a given moment, I had people who would be there to caretake. Recently I had someone take care of all my pets, as I became homeless, and my exit is all I focus on now..I miss them so much, and the pain of never seeing them again is unbearable..But, at least I can take solace in knowing they're safe and in good hands.

Here is a semi-related suggestion I made that might interest some pet owners.

That's one of the main reasons why i'm still here.
Leaving my 2 cats to be taken 1care of by my mother and stepfather breaks my heart.
It's not that they will be mistreated, which they won't, but i'm much more sensible and tolerant towards them than they are.
Imagining the cats roaming my empty bedroom afterwards, possibly expecting me to be inside waiting for them on my bed, is a thought that just sears through my skin and cuts through my heart. Saying that it's depressing is an understatement.

My two beautiful cats are the only thing that's kept me here. They are the only thing I haven't fucked up. While my fiancé never wanted the cats, he's grown to love them and I know he would take great care of them for me. I just worry about my first cat, as he doesn't really bond with anyone else but me and howls when he can't find me. It would be hard for him, but he's very close with my other cat so I know he would be okay.

You are most certainly not crazy. I was never able to have kids and my fur babies ARE my kids. I have a chihuahua and and a german shorthaired pointer. I am fortunate in that my boyfriend lives with me and he's as big a dog lover as I am. I've requested that the executor of my will(my dad) leaves my house to him where he can stay and take care of our fur babies. It's still not going to be easy to say goodbye to them.

I do to an extent, but I know he will be well loved and taken care of by family. He will be fine I know. You know you are ready when you can still leave them I think.
