Health is a myth

I started living with my best friend some time ago. Both of us are mentally ill and struggle on a daily basis. I'm diagnosed with mixed anxiety-depressive disorder (aka basic bitch diagnosis) and have a tendency to isolate myself and lay around doing nothing a lot.
My roommate isn't yet diagnosed with anything, but they def have ptsd, depression, anxiety and some form of an ed. They also sh and think they could have bpd.

We both drink a LOT rip

I often think about how living together affects both of us. On one hand it can be very helpful, because we understand and support each other. Sometimes we're the only people that get our struggles and don't say or do stupid shit in an attempt to help. Also it's a serious life saver when I'm paralyzed in bed in the morning and they bring me my meds.

On the other hand, it can suck. Sometimes our symptoms clash and I get confused about what to do in a certain situation and do something that upsets them irrationally. (like talk over them) Sometimes I feel really bad about myself for that and end up shutting off.
Like one time they couldn't get up from the floor when they had to be somewhere. My thought was that in that state, I don't like to be touched, so what i did was spray their ass with water. To my surprise, they weren't happy at all lol.

And biggest problem, we trigger each other a lot, by various things. Idk what to do about that.

My question is: Does anyone here live with another mentally ill person? What are your experiences like? What helps you?

Yes and loving it. I cook for her and give her little gifts. She does the same for me. We both hate the planet. Her daughter died from fentanyl 12 months ago. I almost died several times during 2019. We are getting better. It is all about getting out of the house for any reason whatsoever.

even the slightest notion of .. what society will not accept as normal. it is easy to fit the mental disorder criteria of the current society

Well your definition is very problematic and just bad honestly. Not every little thing that deviates from what is considered normal is a mental disorder.

This hurts the real mental disorders out there and more specifically the believability of them.

Like in Catch 22? We are sain because we are smart enough to pretend that we are sick because we can get away from the war? Or Klinger in Mash ? How many diagnoses were made frivolously just to take away some power for self determination from someone who openly declares that they have no interest in fitting the norms.

Hi op, what do you class as mentally ill?

Hi, thanks for asking! I would say it becomes an illness when it interferes with your daily function and life

Thank you for sharing. Your roommate sounds wonderful. I'm also the one that cooks, it calms me down a lot. What kind of things do you give each other?

Hope both of you have a better life going on <3
