How do you cope. Any success stories or is it the reason you're going to CTB.
What medication caused it for you.
It was Cymbalta for me. Only took 30 mgs for 28 days. Developed severe muscle twitches so doctor told me just to stop. 6 days later I got slammed with Akathisia. The past 17 months have been pure torture. I need to go.

I recently watched an interview with someone who also got akathisia based on a short-term use of Cymbalta, it sounds really horrific, I'm sorry you've been failed by the medical system

I didn't know this disease. I have cervical dystonia. This is also a muscular disease. Medication can cause dystonia too. I have muscle spasms in my neck (and constant pain) and it's one of the reasons I want to CTB. When you say it's like torture, I agree. The only moment I'm OK is when I sleep. You can PM if you want. I send you hugs

All these fucking meds can make you disabled. That's why I am wary of this

It's simply horrific. Life ruined after only 28 days. Never explained the possible side effects.

I also have dystonia from the benzos they gave me to try and help the Akathisia. My neck. Hand. Foot and torso all twisted. Unbelievable to think I was just stressed due to over working at the start.

It is pure torture. The med I'm on and my severe chronic illness is why I want to..

😯😯 I got akathisia from your common extrapyramidal syndrome (due to 1st gen antipsychotic medication overdose) and it got resolved with anticholinergic medication... I didn't know other people suffered from it long term, I'm sorry to hear that :(

I don't take antipsychotics anymore, and I was given slow-release trihexyphenidyl (called Parkinane in French, idk how it's called in other languages :( )

It only disappeared when I stopped taking the drug responsible for it. It's really horrible. What do these doctors say have to say when people want to die because of problems caused by these medications?

They say we're delusional and need more meds forever.

One of the worst psych med side effects. Thankfully I've never had it. I was shocked when I found out about it on my own after I'd been on the drugs for years. So sinister that hardly anyone is ever told about this. There's a news story about a woman who tried to get MAiD over it.

The husband said she was assured by two experts that the condition was treatable but never followed their advice.

Probably because she's heard online from other sufferers just how unpredictable and counterproductive those treatments can be. And how can she be expected to trust the same class of "experts" who did this to her, probably with no warning?

I sometimes get some of these symptoms. When I take propranolol or valerian root pills it does calm down a bit.

It's awful. I understand why you want (or need) to CTB. Can you tell me the name of the benzo please ? I take valium for my muscle spasms and for my anxiety.
May I ask you for which reason they gave you Cymbalta ? I didn't know this med but I just google it and I see it's actually Duloxetine, and you know what ? My psychiatrist gave it to me some weeks ago but when I read all the side effects, I didn't want to take it. I was right to trust my instincts this time.

This kind of meds should be banned. Here is an article which talks about the side effects (sorry it's in french) but this "Prescrire" medical newspaper is independent and they are not connected with Big pahrma, so they can say everything they want. Every year, they list all the meds that are dangerous.

I took a compound containing fluphenazine and nortriptyline, which caused an effect called "extrapyramidal syndrome," which causes akathisia. I took ariprazole and had the worst akathisia of my life, which lasted for about a week. Even clonazepam didn't go away. I had to take biperiden.

At one point, I took metocropramide for a gastric problem and developed extrapyramidal syndrome, so I always rule out that antiemetic... Its hell.

I had it for a few weeks after I stopped benzos. It was awful. I know some people have it for years, but most of the time it stops eventually. Or so I've read.

That article is so irresponsible: "After researching her symptoms online, the claim says the woman became convinced that she had akathisia — a condition described as an "inability to sit still""

Makes it sound like she was misled by misinformation online to think that her symptoms--which they describe as essentially fidgeting--was akathisia.

I would get very mild symptoms of Akathesia when given certain anti-nausea meds. I had like 3 episodes that were extremely uncomfortable but made the connection and knew not to take those. Unbeknownst I was given an antibiotic that I had taken before with no issues whatsoever and I experienced only what I can say were 3 days of absolute hell. Went through all the symptoms and I honestly have no idea how I survived those 3 days. I am terrified of it and refuse most new meds if there is even a chance it could cause anything remotely similar.

Where are you located? If in the US, there is a doctor who specializes in these cases and actually has facilities in I think like 3 states. But I am sure they can offer any info or referrals. He has a YouTube channel. His name and channel is Dr. Josef. And his place is called Taperclinic.
