You're exactly right. Things never change. People become estranged for legitimate reasons almost always, I have never regretted cutting my family out of my life. I'm sorry you had to experience the life drain again. :/

Yup. I was stupid enough to believe my mom's words that things in the house had changed. Before that I didn't talk to them for two years.

Not sure if it counts, but I never knew my family. I found some vague contact info when I was around 18 but it just seemed like a bad idea to look for them so I didn't.
I had a very dear friend I used to call big sister, I wanted that family to last. But then I got cut off very suddenly after they did some very hurtful things to me. I still wish I can find a big sister in this world to look up to. ;_;

yeah, exactly. toxic, self-centered people. and no matter how hard I try, I cannot move from here. financially it's just not possible... they are the reason for all of my suffering to be honest
