I spent most of the time this summer just being asleep, didn't matter day or night, but now that college started again I cant sleep well at night anymore, my mind won't shut up. So I've been staying up most nights just to start feeling sleepy in the morning right when i need to get ready for class...then taking naps in the afternoon during week days when back from school and catching up on my sleep at the weekends. It's annoying not being able to fall sleep whenever i wish. I would choose sleep over anything if i could

It takes me 3-4 hours to fall asleep because my mind is racing, then I wake up every few hours on and off and then I get out of bed feeling tired and awful.

Sleeping used to be my escape, I could sleep 12-14 hours non stop, but now it's just a pain in the ass. I don't want to take sleeping pills because I will get addicted.

One of the side effects of my antidepressants is insomnia.
I have tried other antidepressants and also insomnia.
Without antidepressants i can't even function.
So i take antidepressants and sleeping pills this gives me 4 hours sleep per night.
If i'm lucky.

Yes. I literally have to take prescription sleeping aids to sleep. There have been times when I did not and I was up for over 36 hours.

The ride never ends!

I haven't slept "normally" for over 8 years now. I started using some mild benzos to help me sleep and it worked fine for a year or two.. Then I had to move to stronger pills. I don't remember much from the time when I was using benzos daily. I took a few during the day to keep me calm and a handful at night to put me to sleep. This continued for months and I ended up getting benzos from several different doctors since I kept running out of them.

I have just accepted that I can't sleep like a normal person anymore. Sometimes a SleepyTimesCocktail of some antihistamines, benzos, SSRI's and alcohol might make me sleep for healthy hours. On some really bad nights I've taken pentobarbital but I'm trying to save those for a plan B.

What country do you live in if you don't mind me asking. Here in Europe they would rather you wither in pain than prescribe you any benzos/opiates. When they do, it's for a very short term. Long term would be if you're on your deathbed.

Northern Europe. It started off as short term for me but it's been years now. My doctor calls it the "lesser evil" but withdrawal has been a wild ride.

I have cycles of months of severe insomnia and normal months.
Sometimes I go on like I have some kind of jetlag from a travel that I haven't done.

For anyone dealing with these problems, melathonin helps me a lot.

I can't sleep without sleeping pills. It's one of my reason why I want to die.
