As a kid and teenager i always had a weird attraction and interest with these "dark" themed things, even though i was never the "Gothic" type of person and i was actually more into hip hop music and clothing.
Even the whole black metal thing only started a year ago.
But yeah, i always prefered night over day,
winter over summer, cloudy and rainy days over sunny and bright days.
I always prefered forests over beaches.
I also have a thing for castles and old monuments.
I wonder if this has anything to do with my messed up personality and my lifelong tendency for depression or it's just a coincidence.
Any fellow "Darksiders" around?

I hate being on bright places, so that implies everything related to light, I also love rainy days too. Maybe it's related to my misanthropia and agoraphobia

To be fair, I've heard there are more kinds of gothic or emo types that I'm willing to bet all of us would fit in somewhere within the types. I haven't really explored the topic, though, so don't take my word for it.

But yeah, I prefer the darkness too. Though autumn is my favourite season, no frozen roads to slip on and few if any insects around plus it's sufficiently dead to fit my likes.

Haha, i reckon that you, living in Norway, don't have many reasons to like winter as much as i do.
It's way more rough there.

I do like winter. I just don't like it when the snow melts and turns into ice. I've got a poor balance on flat concrete, trying to walk on ice is just asking for bloody knees and scraped hands. But I love the night sky and the northern lights (I don't live a place where I see that anymore but I grew up with it and having snow for near 6 months a year, a lot of it too). I love the way snow glitters in the sunlight. If ice wasn't a thing, winter would be great.

Nah, nothing messed up about it. Shows refined taste, that's what it is.

However, my love for rainy weather gave way in a country which doesn't know what August means. Fuckers, there needs to be SOME sun in the year, ya know? OK I still love a proper thunderstorm, but endless grey days are not pretty anymore.

But if one of my ears had ever perked up to hip hop I would cut the fucker off, hip hop is everything I cannot stand in a nutshell.

Eh, when i look back i feel like i had a completely different state of mind. Hip Hop went well with it. I only used to listen to 90's classics mostly. Nowadays hip hop is just garbage.
But anyways, i can't stand it now.

I've always had a morbid imagination, and darkness (night, medieval castles, Saturn, Heathcliff, outer space) has always appealed to me. I even eat dark/bittersweet chocolate just because the idea of it suits me. But linking that to emo or metal astonishes me. There were elegantly wasted types way before metal or emo!

My dear lady, how could anyone enjoy a fine, ruined castle to the tune of 'I'm so gangster and had so much sex'? Please.

And yes, dark chocolate. Hand it here.

Always been a darksider. Melancholy, dark thoughts started pretty young. I love the night, rain and even more the smell of rain, forests, winter etc...At 15 I was reading writers like Poe-Mishima-Ellroy-Beaudelaire & Co and listening to the album Pornography/The Cure on loop, so I didn't stand a chance from the start. But castles no way, too cold.

Cool you have gaahl on profile picture. Yea I am generally into darker stuff and I don't really like black metal but I do appreciate certain elements of it. There is some corny shit in dark music, art and stuff that I hate so I stay away from that.

My mom actually made a joke today that I'm "second generation goth". (My immediate family is generally alternative, apparently always has been.)

Grew up in the woods. (Quiet! Amazing! Never understood why anyone would want to live elsewhere.) Allergic to the sun (highschool friends thought I was making a vampire joke with that...) so overcast & rain are great, fall and winter are the best for both aesthetic outside and clothing wise. (And Halloween!) Have only ever owned black cats. Late nights are ideal cuz they're quiet, and pretty.

I honestly didn't know certain things were "dark" or spooky or weird until I got into school. (Getting called goth or emo as a jab confused me too when I was maybe 11/13 like....I like black? My parents bought this shirt? Those are music genres? Ahaha.)

Yeah ever since I was 5 I've been in love with horror movies and the night time brings me a bit of comfort. I'd love it if the sun never shined. I love it when it rains and when we get a good thunderstorm. I hate the beach but love the woods. I find strange things beautiful.

I used to live close to Graceland cemetary and it was my favourite place to go for walks, especially when psychedelics were involved. It's a trip in itself though, so I highly recommend it no matter what state you're in.

I do like beaches, just not when the sun is out. Rainy beaches, cold beaches - oceans are amazing.

Yes I totally relate. Some of my favourite places are graveyards, particularly the larger older London ones. Beautifully melancholy.
As a massive fan of urbex the smell of decay is happiness to me in some ways, as my most uplifting times have been getting into old abandoned places/ buildings/ trains, whatever..I like that sense of entering a secret forbidden world, exploring dark dank rooms like a gothic Alice in Wonderland.
And yes.. everything about crime/ serial killers/ prisons is totally fascinating.

Me and my ex-partner went graveyard hunting all the time. Always on the lookout for a properly ruined one, though hard to find. And one spontaneous midnight trip to one, playing at stealing and raising the dead. They actually found an abandoned-looking grave among all the well-kept ones, of a couple. And kneeled down to scrape at it. I says, 'But it will be only skeletons, they are not fresh.' They go 'Well I thought we wanted skeletons!'

Then we found a children's park to play. Hunted for swings wherever we went, as well. Just before they dumped me like yesterday's sack of turds, we found the nicest graveyard WITH A SWING next to it.

Ok let me have another fag before memories sink their teeth in me.

The aroma of oud, aka agarwood, is sandalwood's dark side. It's very complex, like a sandalwood house burning down and you can smell the memories of the generations of inhabitants burning too. It comes from jungle trees that are at a particular stage of decay after being attacked by a fungus.

Just curious: How many of us in this thread are Capricorns or Scorpios? (I'm a Capricorn.)
