ok so this seems like what i need but i looked into the 12 steps thing and i have a feeling we arent going to get along unless they are open minded. im wiccan and everything ive read about 12steps is AAAAALL christian stuff. if they think for 2 seconds that im going to magically believe in god and hes magically going to get rid of my addictions, they are really funny and im gonna walk out really fast. anyone maybe able to shed some light on this because if they are going to shove god in my face im just gonna figure it out myself. you can have your beliefs and everything idc but dont shove it in my face.

i was thinking about doing this 30 day drug rehab program but I don't trust the system to properly take care of me, it's sad that i have to think this way but I've seen its first hand people being mistreated in psychiatric wards I've been to strapped to hospital beds with no relief meds or proper care etc :(

what's the program you were looking at btw? I'm just sus because everyone I've ever met ESPECIALLY my "family" seems to treat opioid addiction like its something to be so shameful and disgusted about, I dont want to be treated like a monster for using something to cope with depression.

I called a place recently called gateway and they basically tried to redirect me to a psychward... gateway looks nice though but yeah hopefully its not a bunch of religious stuff I'm not about that type of healing either
you need to make sure you go somewhere that can treat you properly so make some calls and ask for straight up answers ♥️

for the most part i dont drink although one of my personalities seems to think its a great idea to sneak some to work and have a drink there sometimes or having a mouthful or 2 when people turn their backs during the week.
im fairly confident thats a sign of "often or not its time to go" lol

Some AA meetings are trying to back away from the overt Christian overtones. You may still hear it and will probably be asked to do the serenity prayer at the end. You can opt out if you're uncomfortable, no one can "make" you do anything.

While I never liked it, I had a drinking problem late teens to mid twenties and going inpatient helped me a lot, in fact I managed to stop entirely after a terrible 6 years. I tried to focus on the content of the meetings while ignoring the religious aspects.

You probably won't be the only one there that feels that way if you decide to go so you won't be alone.

It's none of my business but... when I stopped drinking years ago my life got really great. It's hard again because now physically I'm sick, but cutting out the booze really changed my life for the better and helped take away the depression I had to quite a great extent.

So my advice... probably go, not much to lose. If you hear something you don't like regarding religion, just ignore it, if you're asked to do something you're uncomfortable with, decline. Plus, going voluntarily... You can usually leave these places when you want to.

Try not to expect the worst.
Let me know if you have more questions. I hope you find something to help you.

Well I can say, perhaps you can go even when believing all your stuff and your wiccan beliefs, if they can serve as being something greater than yourself that will do the trick... AA does not requires Christians or Catholics, and if some peer in the group says so, fuck him, he ain't God or all mighty himself.
Having a group to share was very important to me once, since I'm drinking a few beers now and then I'm not going anymore, plus I don't have a car, plus I'm 100% alright, I'm not doing pills or weed or inhaling shit, my troubles for which I went to AA are gone.... I felt horrible, turned out to be a hormone thing, lack of testosterone in the blood , I still have low levels but I feel fine with a weekly injection , no depression no more. No need to do any substance abuse.
Wish you the best man.
I'm still looking to get better everyday, and AA has good principles, like the serenity prayer which is in fact the single most important Stoic principle.

Having a group to share was great for some years while I felt like shit.

I think that this is good advice.
In the AA model. God is referred to as simply a higher power greater than yourself and everybody's God can be different, so its not necessarily referring to a really wise man with long hair and a beard. Some people have elvis as their higher power for example.
Id say its more spiritual than religious. You have nothing to lose. It wasnt for me, but for some its a lifesaver.

I don't have personal experience with AA but I don't think it's so Christian that it won't work for someone of another faith. Okay, I do have some experience, the AA model is used for these grow groups which are for depression etc. It's not so much Christian as a general deference to some kind of higher power. So it is easy to accept by people of most faiths.
