Does anyone have songs/music they just don't like listening to anymore? I have so many. They bring back awful memories and remind me of all the things I hoped for that just never worked out, all the consecutive phases of failure in my life represented by different musical interests at the time. I have to just drop the music from each phase even if I like it because of what it reminds me of. I generally don't listen to any music now but sometimes I feel like a distraction and try to find something new, more cynical than the last batch so that I can handle it. There's almost nothing left out there, at least not in terms of genres I would enjoy.

I can relate 100%.
I also have it with other things.. such as food or scents. I'm a sucker for scented candles, I have a BUNCH but can't light any of them because it reminds me of awful things that happened when I had them lit and could smell them. I'm overall super nostalgic, I strongly connect memories with things that were present at the given time and it doesn't really help with hurtful memories that are stuck in my mind.

Some of the songs I listened to recently were from way back and they remind me of a cluster of candles from way back. Neither memories made my life better the days after but it was intoxicating while doing it.

I have this more with movies now, I try to avoid depressing dramas or horror movies that make me feel bad.
I usually watch now mostly silly 80s comedies, my form of escapism.

Certain French movies from the 80s & 90s have that effect on me. I like the movies but they depress me to the point of becoming more suicidal since they remind me of the social aspirations I had when there was still a chance...missed of course, all of them.

Yes. Personally I avoid listening to songs I used to listen to before my life became shitty. It reminds me of a time when I was happy and it hurts. Same for pictures.

I used to be a big fan of 'Maiden. Not really who i am overall ie I don't look like the heavy metal guys at all but just for a few years - occasionally fun but extremely dark times - I was a fan. Don't listen to them any more. I should force myself just to confront what is ultimately an irrational fear but I know I won't. Why risk it.

I do. There are some songs I can't listen to anymore because they remind me of my ex-friend so bad…
Recently though I have started to listen to them again. They slap, and besides I've been feeling pretty blank these past days, so they're not even that painful anymore.
