Brand names: Clozaril, FazaClo, Clopine, Leponex, Versacloz
I was with my psychiatrist yesterday. I was on escitalopram for +6 months, he took this one out and gave me clozapine 25mg.

As I can see, it is for schizophrenia. My grandfather has. But my doctor said that he doesn't see me having schizophrenia and gave me this med to avoid suicide and suicide thoughts.

From the bull: "Clozapine is used to treat schizophrenia after other treatments have failed. Clozapine is also used to reduce the risk of suicidal behavior in people with schizophrenia or similar disorders."

And I was thinking somethings: He took me out of my antidepressant and but me on an antipsychotic, is it common? Clozapine will answer to my depression too? He gave me receipt for alprazolam too, but this is for my anxiety, not depression. WHAT ABOUT MY FUCKING DEPRESSION??

I appreciate sine now and hope and get some enlightenment!

Edit: I think that it is important the info about I'm taking 25mg, considering that bull recommends always starting like that, but then your dose will be around 300mg and 450mg, with maximum dose of 900mg. I understood from my doctor that this high dosage [100/200/300mg (quoted him)] is really for schizophrenia.

Heard good things about it for treating conditions such as BPD, which they're currently trialing. But also heard it has MAJOR weight gain side effects and i think you have to have your bloods taken regularly

Thanks for your answer. Yeah I read in the bull about weight gain, not the "MAJOR" part. At this aspect it will be hard to know, I've been gaining weight. Maybe i will get better on my food routine and if I gain a massive weight, i will realise why it is about.

And in bull said weekly blood test, but my doctor asked a blood test in 3-4 weeks, and then I'll come back there.

Worried about the weight gain :nomouth:

unfortunately most anti psychotics cause weight gain because they change your metabolism. It sucks

The weight gain is extreme. Be warned. Within a few months you will probably balloon up to over 100kg. Happened to me on olanzEpine and clozapine is worse in regards to propensity to cause weight gain. It's the most fattening drug I know of. I personally would only take it if you are psychotic and no other antipsychotic med is working. I have stretch marks from gaining so much weight. They'll last forever.

I've been put on antipsychotics before, but never have been diagnosed with schizophrenia. I've also been put on anti seizure medication for depression or something without having epilepsy.

I wouldn't worry too much on what the medication is exactly for as long as it works.
