Antipsychotics??

So... I work in a shopping centre... our security team handed in a strip of unopened antipsychotic medication that had been found on a bench.. we were advised to dispose of it as it was highly unlikely anyone would collect it and it wasn't safe to keep...

...My question is what would have happened if I had kept it and taken one? I can't remember the name of it, I've tried googling what it sounded like and no luck, began with chlo..... ended with -ine of some sort... but just for general reference what would happen if I took antipsychotic medication that I didn't necessarily need? I remember google said it was a highly potent version of another antipsychotic...

I'm so curious. Killing this cat here.

Klonopin/clonazepam? If I remember correctly from psychiatric hospital discussions, it's one of the heavier APs. One of the last ones a psychiatrist will prescribe. Due to side effects I guess? Causes weight gain?

I am always of the mind that taking as few medications as possible is best. Every new one you introduce to your system could cause side effects. So unless you needed them for your brain, it's perhaps best for your health that you didn't take them?

clonazepam is the generic for klonopin and it is a benzo and not an AP.

OP, it is very hard to od on APs, all it would do is put you in a coma for a few days.

I used to take antipsychotics and they did nothing except making me hungry all the time.

I have been on various antipsychotics: risperidone, olanzapine, clozapine and trifluoperazine. All did nothing for my problem, and some of the the side effects were rhinitis, sleepiness and sexual dysfunction

Was it chlorpromazine?

I've taken 2 antipsychotics and they caused sedation, slowed thought processes, and weight gain. (And cessation of my suicidal thinking but I still enjoy lurking here, but I digress).

All antipsychotics carry the risk of neuroleptic malignant syndrome which can be quite nasty and potentially lethal. It can also cause agranulocytosis, which lowers immunity by causing a deficiency in a certain class of white blood cell.

And the typical antipsychotics also pose risk for extrapyramidal side effects, which are akin to movement disorders.

Thanks all. I know overdoses suck like all hell and the nausea is something I hope to never have to relive, but I do wonder about harming myself by taking meds I don't need (not necessarily in huge amounts)
