Discussion Another YouTuber made a terrible video on the site- don’t you think we should make more user only threads and put limits on membership (etc)?

So a YouTuber that I used to actually watch and somewhat enjoy made a video about the site. And I have to admit that she at least wasn't entirely negative about the site, but it is potentially bringing negative visibility.

My idea is to potentially make the methods resource tab members only? And vet new users better? I admit that I found this site in 2022 or 2023 due to that tantacrul site and I've been on here for years. I have been in and out of attempts and I've left and returned to this site with the ebbs and flows of life, especially with things I absolutely can't tell therapists or my friends and things I'd otherwise take to the grave.

And something worth bringing up is that with lawmakers or anti sasu people, having the resource tab be public or mods not taking down overly pro ctb/ "bullying" comments, this could get the site taken down for real and permanently. And also being proactive with banning minors on this site, it makes us look terrible for a 12 YEAR OLD running around on this site or these servers. I'm not advocating for id verification or anything invasive, but if someone is admitting to being crazy young, maybe it would be worth it to actually assert the site rules.

And on an ending note, I hate how we are all portrayed as incels. Like yes I am a woman and it's not a crime to not get laid, I've interacted with maybe one or two stereotypical incels on this site,but there are so many women on this site and so many good and nice people. And mods are proactive with banning people who doxx or otherwise do online or real world harm to people, in my experience.

I think as long as the mods keep doing what they're supposed to be doing (actually taking down hurtful comments or illegal shit), then i think we should be good. but i also do think user only threads would be great and should not be visible to people who are just guests. same with banning people who are severely underage. i dont think 17 year old should be banned, because when i was 17, i would occasionally browse the website, but didnt have an account because i didnt see the need to, but im 18 now, so i did and im in some deep shit. like we cant really tell who is or isnt a minor fr on these sites, some people could be lying. and i agree that ID verification is too invasive and this could get leaked, so that's not the solution. theres only so much that the mods can do about these things, but overall, as long as they do the best they can with managing the site, it should be fine, even if other people keep making videos and bringing this site to the limelight and giving it a bad rep.

Honestly, the problem is that people don't realize that minors aren't lobotomized shrimp. If a kid wants to get into a site they know they're not supposed to be in, they'll find a way in. People only bring up kids as a pawn to tug at everyone's heartstrings

This isn't to say that underage people should be let into SaSu. If we know that a user is underage, they should be banned. My point is that there will always be at least one minor on this site no matter how hard we try. Plus, she said something along the lines of "there are literally users going around proclaiming they're 12" without adding what happened to those 12 year olds afterwards (they got banned most likely—if this story is even true to begin with)

Tl;Dr unless we start asking users to send in their personal info, there's really no way we can completely get rid of the issue of minors sneaking into this site

EDIT: I hope that this doesn't come across as condescending. I just wanted to say this because it's obvious that the YouTuber only covered SaSu for clout, so there's really nothing we can do because, regardless of what measures we put in place, she will find anything to exaggerate as a way to demonize us

I also agree. I feel like the majority of people on here make vent threads but never comment on other people's vent threads. I feel like the same 10 people hold this community up. I myself am guilty of it. I was reading this thread on my break and wanted to actually sit down and reply. I feel like a lot of people have heavy emotional loads and don't want to interact with other peoples problems, but if we all do that, we're all just speaking into a void. What's interesting is that there's a whole app now for ai social media where it revolves around the entire person. Like "dead internet theory", but sometimes with fictional characters as their ais to comment, in character.

I feel like this is a really helpful site to get emotions out but the plot is lost when we don't lift each other up, and every single hypothetical question has been pretty much answered. I myself like the off topic threads and this feels like a better form of social media than others, I like the forum aspect. I like that posts are longer and it's not an image board, and that I can come on here and talk about mental health and taboo subjects. Since the videos and the articles I've just started talking about anything extremely serious in private tabs.

As much as I wish methods were less prominent... or at least a few more clicks away... the cat's out of the bag. And even if they were hidden, trial and error can still occur, based on reading ppl's attempts (even with other sites), and potentially gleaning clues.

Publicity will lead to more users and possibly more moderators, however is unlikely to cause significant disruption... tho I fear a targeted campaign can flood the registration queue and reduce the amount of new users joining... but such campaigns aren't permanent and AI could be used to weed out the obvious spam (eg AI generated entry reasons and vile hate messages) from the mix of spam and legit registrations.

ID verification isn't foolproof, read the YT comments about Roblox's face AI and ID verification options... people have got others to verify for them. And continuous verification fails because there will likely be ppl paid to handle the account on behalf of a 3rd party... think CAPTCHA solving farms.
