Here in the USA guns are available on every street corner, and I do know a fair amount about them. My question is more a confirmation of what I have decided.

Those with a good amount of firearm knowledge - I assume a .357 magnum with hollow point ammo will do the trick. The plan is to put the barrel in my mouth with, say, a 30-degree up angle, trying to hit the brain stem. I know straight back is not the correct angle; there needs to be a bit of an up angle.

I'm thinking this "almost" cannot fail. I will also be in a place I doubt I will be found for a couple of hours; I would think blood loss alone will work.

Guess the question is I am not familiar with point-blank firing. Are there any "gotchas" on firing point-blank in the mouth? Recoil? I guess the bullet has left the barrel at that point, so no concern?

Hollow-point ammo, best choice?

Thanks

Dude, I know funny meme, haha America and guns but, as another American, this is blatantly not true. Plenty of misinformed, non-US people here complain about our access to guns. Please do not add to the misinformation.

Our access to guns is more than any other country on the globe. What are you talking about? You can buy a gun here anywhere. Probably a gun store for every 10k in population in any metro area or non-metro area, for that matter.

Yeah, hollow-point for most potential damage. .357 is reasonable. It's doubtful you're going to take your brain stem out, though. Perhaps with a shotgun, but doubtful with a handgun. As far as 30°, you'll have to judge for yourself. And I think it's a bit of an exaggeration to say that guns are available on every street corner here in America.

The yellow highlighted portion is NOT the brain stem.

Ok, maybe not every street corner. Guns are available here in the USA at any gun shop. There is a gun shop in any town with over 10K in population. How is that?

Quick stat for you all:

The number of licensed gun dealers in the usa is higher than the combined total of all McDonald's, Burger King, Subway, and Wendy's locations, and more than double the number of US Post Office

There's literally at least one gun store on every block in Florida.

This makes me nervous because a lot of threads seem to say side of the head, above or slightly behind the earn.
But of course, intraoral comes up a lot too. Just want the right one. Maybe both work.

Unless you live in NY, NJ, CA, IL, and a few other states.

Both will work. From what I've read, aiming through the soft pallet is both shorter distance and less stuff in the way getting to the brainstem. Less resistance. Plus it's very awkward trying put a rifle or shotgun to the side of your head.

But if you're using a powerful handgun, side of the head will work too. And you have the bonus of likely damaging both hemispheres of the brain which is an unsurvivable injury.

Wouldn't bird shot have better chance of making maximum tissue damage while still keeping your head presentable ?

I think that's what Kurt Cobain did

I know about weapons and I know some about ballistics.

At that distance, it is very, very unlikely that you would survive a shot from that caliber and type of bullet.

Not only would it cause massive internal bleeding and destroy your brain, but the force of the bullet and its energy would create an internal cavity that would generate excessive pressure, destroying much of your brain (both during entry and exit).

It is likely that your skull will enlarge and give the appearance that you are a little more big-headed, or that part of your skull will fracture due to the pressure generated by the pressure cavity of the projectile.

It's a quick and painless but grotesque way to end your life if you understand weapons. Ending your life is a very serious matter, so think carefully about what you're doing. If you have doubts, there's a reason for that.

Fire the weapon at least once so you understand what you'll be doing to your head.

I hope you make the best choice for yourself.

Personally, I'd use buck shot.

The Difference Between Buckshot and Birdshot Explained

The difference between birdshot and buckshot is the size of projectiles (shot/pellets) loaded into the shotgun shell and their penetration ability. Buckshot shells have larger pellets in lower numbers while birdshot shells have smaller pellets in much higher quantities. Buckshot loads have high penetration while birdshot typically has lower penetration ability.
