All these articles accomplish is blaming a website for someone's suicide rather than actually trying to understand why people commit suicide, what can be done to help them in a humane and practical way, and ultimately respecting peoples choice to end their lives.

These articles are always about pointing the finger at this website or the method which has absolutely no merit as an argument. Her son chose to visit this website, chose to order SN, and chose to end his own life; nobody forced him to do anything.

You sum up my thoughts perfectly! It feels like every one of these articles reads the same. They talk about how tragic the suicide was, how sad the family is, and after successfully buttering up their readers, they blame SS and emotionally manipulate people into thinking we're responsible. I guess it's easier to blame an 'evil website' for suicide, rather than just accepting people choose it because they are suffering too much. The families of those who ctb will have somewhere to point their despair & frustration, whilst the 'journalists' get a good title and more clicks for their shitty article. These articles are basically profiting off of the suicide, yet we're the monsters? O-kay...

I stopped reading at "coached to take own life" (didn't open the article just what can be seen here) and all I have to say is,
1 I agree with the other 2, seeing this was nothing more then an eye roll feeling lol

Im going to curse here and I apologize if it makes anyone uncomfortable....maybe I won't curse BUT I WANT TO! This story says nothing NOTHING about why this 27 yo man was depressed. It says nothing about if his parents or school or society in general made him so sad or hurt him so much that he looked for outside help! Were his parents divorced? Did he get bullied? Did he not like how the world is run? He had a problem long long long long before he searched for a suicide method on the web. He had a problem that he felt he could not take up with anyone else. Something was eating him up and so he searched the web. Then he found a few sites. Then he ended up here. After that he stayed here! Nobody forced him to stay. Nobody asked him to look for a method. He did that all on his own! He filled out his profile on his own! The question is WHY? Why was he so hurt? Who could he NOT talk to? Then they blame the site. There are suicides mounting all over right now. People take pills or use a gun. That cant be blamed on this site alone. Also there are many many many sites just like this one. I found at least 4 before I stayed here. The reason I stayed is to help other hurt and lost people. I don't want anyone who is in pain to feel the way that this horrible world makes us feel. War is legal. There are 10000 sites for legal and lawful killing including weapon types and ammo and killing machines such as tanks and ships and helicopters. Those ideas kill MILLIONS! Nobody moves to shut all those down. How weak people are that they blame a place like this for the sickness in the "real world". The kid was sad. He wanted to go. He would have found the means ANYWHERE on the web! Redit. Quora. Facebook. YouTube. Twitter. ANYWHERE! This info is all over the place because people are sick of being here in this cold sad world and THEY WANT TO DIE! How much more of a damn wake up do people "REGULAR PEOPLE" F-ing need!? 1000 more children will take the bus today and tomorrow because of the pain in this world! The pain caused them to want to escape! Fix the pain and the F-ING symptoms will go away! Make this world better and children will want to stay longer! It's not F-ING ROCKET SURGERY!

It really isn't that complicated at all but society doesn't want to put forth the time, money, and effort to actually address the issues that make people end their lives(not all issues are fixable). Most of these people aren't even asking the right questions yet; instead of

-Why isn't this method banned? or Why isn't this website shut down?

It should be

-What can we do to provide relief? What makes people commit suicide? Disability? Bullying? Abuse? Loneliness? Homelessness?

Once these morons start asking the right questions, they should then answer them, and then act on those answers. Bullshit like mental health awareness, psychiatric imprisonment, empty platitudes, and trying to prohibit humane methods doesn't prevent suicide.

I'll give them a tip for the homelessness one; you give people a home.

Exactly! Hate this kind of articles so much! I wish they understood that SS actually helps a lot of people, like me!
I tried to ctb 4 times, was gonna ctb last Jan, 21st but I've met such nice people here (like you, bota-chan) and shared different experiences that now I'm feeling better.
Talking to people who are not pro-lifers and actually try to understand what you're feeling is awesome.

In other words, this community is the best. Some of might ctb anyway while some others might not.

Why does our society scream "Suicide is EVIL!" all the livelong day, but never discuss the reasons why people end their own lives? Someone else mentioned it already, but this article doesn't even explore what actually led the man to take his life. People, unless they're severely mentally ill, don't become death seeking out of nowhere; it comes from issues like poverty, abuse, bullying, tried of a wage slave, and so on. Maybe, just maaaaaybe, we should try to improve the world around us so less people will want to leave it? Pffft, what am I saying, let's just ban all the peaceful methods to die instead! It's funny if you look at it. A person is willing to trust a random website hosting "evil" people but not his/her family and friends. You get coaxed by some strangers you met online but the ones you knew all your life can't get through you. If you are a parent or a friend of someone who is facing issues, just talk to them. Don't judge them and never force your conclusions upon them. Accept the fact that you might be at fault for not being able to truly connect with your loved one.

If you try to discuss suicidal feelings in real life people either don't want to hear it or are too busy trying to get the authorities to take you away.
