I was at Wal-Mart getting a few things. I go there to walk around and to shop. I needed/wanted a few grocery items. Shopping is something that makes me sad because I encounter people, people who are with other people, and it reminds me of how alone I am. I usually do not interact, but sometimes I do... depends on what is going on... like today I had to ask an employee to help me get something I needed but it was out of my reach. He helped and was friendly and that was a good interaction.

As I was wheeling my cart to my car after shopping... a car was driving towards me on the road and they slowed and gestured, and I wasn't sure if they were doing that because they thought I was in the way or needed to cross... but it turned out they were slowing to see if I would talk to them. Two women were in the car. I'm not sure the age of the driver, but she was considerably younger than her passenger, who I was told was 93. I don't know if this was mother and daughter or grandmother and daughter or perhaps to unrelated women.

I don't always hear well and I miss things and and random conversations with strangers that emerge unexpectedly are awkward... but they were trying to stop me to talk. They were not selling anything or trying to convert me to religion... rather, it was an oddly sweet thing they were doing. The older woman liked to sing, and they were driving around and slowing to see if people would talk to them so the older lady could sing to them. She liked older music and they would play it on their phone through the car sound system and the older lady would sing. She honestly had a nice singing voice and I was familiar with the songs they were playing.

It was a random pleasant encounter with strangers where they didn't want something and weren't playing a prank or pulling a trick... just an older lady who liked singing and talking to people and her "driver" chauffeuring her around for the day. I go to that store a lot and I had never seen them before, so don't know how often they do it. Seemed like probably the older lady enjoyed singing and it made her feel good to entertain others and it was a good thing for her.

So much horrible in this world... so many people out to "get" you or scam you... and randomly in a Wal-Mart parking lot today was a couple of nice regular people doing a nice thing and trying to bring smiles to others. I couldn't stay too long because I had frozen items in my cart that needed to get home, but I honestly complimented her on her singing. They thanked me for stopping and talking to them. If only life could be filled more frequently with these kinds of experiences.

That's adorable!

Not quite in the same league in terms of kindness (debatably) but, along the same lines... We went to Spain once on a trip with the college. We were in one of their beautiful plazas one evening and, we could hear singing. Off a side road, there was a small crowd gathered. Two opera singers were most probably practising a duet but, choosing to share it in public. They weren't busking. Just sharing their craft. We thought that was beautiful too.

How lovely though. Presumably it was her grandaughter. What a wonderful thing to do for her Nan and true- a nice surprise that it was something wholesome rather than horrible. Thanks for sharing it.
