I'm in high school looking for colleges right now (I'm 18) and am wondering if anyone has any advice on what I should expect in college as well as any advice that you have. I've been suicidal for 3 years now and am wondering if maybe I can turn my life around in college. I'd love to hear personal stories about college, if it was better than high school, what you like and didn't like about it, etc.

Definitely better than highschool yeah. You can choose to study whatever you're interested in. They're big so you're pretty much invisible most of the time and can keep to yourself. And after the first few semesters, the dumb kids are weeded out so you don't have to deal with them.

Don't drop out, take a year out because you don't know what to do with yourself and before you know it it's turned into fifteen and you're talking to people on here that were three years old when you last had a life

It's a lot better than highschool in my opinion, that being said your overall enjoyment of it may depend on which subjects you're taking; along with your friend groups and stuff

College is neither an escape nor a magic wand. I brought myself to college and, after the initial period of excitement faded, I fell into my old patterns. I thought I could escape myself and my past. Instead I followed myself, wasted a bunch of time, and ended up with useless degrees and debt.

Although, come to think of it, college was the best thing I ever did because it removed my biggest obstacle.

I'd much rather have gone to a trade/tech school instead of college.

Don't do what I did in college. I was really depressed, didn't wanna be there, and spent most of my time there high as a kite. Do something that u enjoy and something that's gonna get u a good career :)) I did art, it was a complete waste of time lmao. In my experience it was definitely better than high school tho, I was bullied really bad in high school but everyone I met in college was pretty nice!

I dropped out then went back the next year. Then I basically spent most of my time in the pub at the end of the road playing pool. Don't do anything like that.

University years were my best ever, the study at the university level is completely different. here there's no limits or frames for your thinking, if you are determined and have a plan for your life during these years, your entire life will be different after that period. But, my advice here is, put simple and direct plan that suits your personal abilities and limits, cuz going over ambitious result in bad consequences.
If you asking about the best major, well pick the one you find yourself attracted to, some ppl may say, take the one with the better job opportunities, do not listen to that, because if you hate the major you will not be good at it even after graduation, and you might get a carrier shift later. So, from the beginning pick the field you like the most, work hard on it, and the opportunity will come to you.
Wish you the best there

do the fafsa right now. Get as much money as you can. Apply for scholarships and start applying to college now. Take the Sats and Acts soon and send in scores. Do essays and basically just be on top of everything. The earlier you start the better. Don't let school work slip either. Good luck, I wish I could go to college.

Currently in college with only one month left til I get my associates. My advice is stay on top of your work to reduce stress and don't procrastinate because it only brings your stress levels up. College has been really stressful for me and I've ended up in the hospital a few times because of it.

Don't do anything till u read the book called Worthless by Aaron clarey. Because we do not live in a honest economic system. Guidance counselors will not be honest with u. College these days is a huge scam. I'm going to attach a video by him and another one about the current state of affairs we live under. One by Aaron and one by another guy who knows what is going on these days.
. In this one college is also discouraged these days. You can get better educated on YouTube or other internet sources. You are likely to waste a lot of time or money by going to college these days. Isn't it a relief that someone is telling u that u can become successful without? Lol!

Hey, 19 here and in my 3rd year of university; id definitely suggest just not slacking at all, literally. Staying focused, taking great lecture notes and using as much resources as possible; for example, oneclass offers study guides, and lecture notes and assignment notes for classes; that are submitted by students of previous years who took that class, it helps a TON. Building relationships with classmates who you can depend on here and there for help and also building a friendship. Having a good relationship with ur prof and TA helps a ton as well. But definitely external resources including oneclass in helping with you're schooling and just for studying and understanding stuff.

Also, not overworking yourself. Managing courseload and work outside as well work surrounding working yourself as a person. courseload increases steadily as the years ago, and you should definitely limit you're hours in working at you're job. dont overwork you're self by giving into working a ton of hours at work as well as working on courseload. It'll fuck you up. Happened to me, thought i could manage, i couldnt. and also, leaving time to building yourself. School gets extremely stressful, and it mentally has an affect on you in university; id just have stable support systems to rely on when such problems arise, which hopefully they dont.

Textbooks. DONT BUY CLASS TEXTBOOKS QUICKLY. There are always PDFs online of textbooks, and iv spent so much fricken money on textbooks, even though pdf versions were available online for free. If there is non, id buy refurbished textbooks and ebooks to save on money if you're tight on budget just cause tuitions hard to really payoff at times and gets overwhelming.

Lastly, like i said with resources man, even talking to a school counselor when things get tough or for literally ANY PROBLEMS or something you're having difficulty in doing or understanding helps a ton. They help and find a way, its really good to take advantage of every resource possible thats provided in helping you, some people are hesitant and i guess shy away towards them.

Also, enjoy life man. you're first year includes some sort of froshe week, depending on where you are; and just the first week which includes campus parties, and extracurricular activities during the day that allow you to meet others. it is absolutely amazing to do this, cause many people you meet are usually always in you're class and first week was probably one of the happiest weeks of my life. It was amazing.

Hope university treats you well.

If your gonna go to University make sure you have at least a rough idea of what you want to do after graduating.
Otherwise you can fall back into feeling as if you've lost a sense of purpose.

AP classes are a complete waste of time as they will generally be as hard as a 4 level equivalent yet the credits won't count towards anything that is a core course. go fuck shit up in a 2year college, stack up as many easy A's then transfer or get that 2 year transfer degree if it's available and go from there. You'll save a lot of money and headaches in the long run and you'll score the opportunity of writing all your wrongs that occurred during your HS education.

I dropped at the ag of 15, took my GED, dropped out of CC, and now I got a scholarship and FASFA that accounts for around 38-40/44k tuition. I was able to score their 2nd biggest scholarship with a gpa of 3.2-3.3 but I had around 20+ A's and maybe 2 b's during my last couple of semesters. Beats going to a state school and paying the same price. I also attend a school where there are only 600-800 students so finding classes and parking is never an issue. Its cool having classes that are never larger than maybe 2X people. SAT's won't matter if you get good enough grades at a 2 year to be honest.

Try to take a reasonable amount of classes, I fucked around during my adolescence and I've literally been taking college classes since I was 15 and I am now 25.

Keep in mind at big schools it will take you around 5-6 years to finish a 4-year degree because sometimes its damn near impossible signing of for GE core classes like English, physics, math.

I'm 28 and spent wayyy too long in college, finally graduating on my 27th birthday with a mostly useless degree (albeit without debt). My only advice is to stick hard with choosing a major that will get you a job that you won't hate, because as it is your other option (as I've discovered) will be minimum wage labor. Seriously, put a fuck-ton amount of thinking into what sort of middle class career you might like. It doesn't have to be perfect, or even long-term, but at least better than a low-wage counterpart. And if you want to do something creative like illustration, then draw nonstop and build as much experience as possible before you graduate.
