It consists of three stars and the X-ray close-up above shows Alpha Centauri A and B. The third star (Alpha Centauri C or Proxima Centauri) is much less brighter but it currently holds the title of the nearest star to the earth. It's at 4.25 light years (about 40 trillion kilometres) away. So close...
