The other weekend my son, he's 8, says to me that he remembers when mom's boyfriend was drunk and that "it's worse this time." He looks at me and says, "at least you'll never get that drunk." Wow dude. That's heavy. I'm still here 100% because of him. He needs me.

Clearly, your son respects you and trusts you. I don't know what the family set up is, but it sounds complicated. Regardless, your son will need you and I believe you will be able to help him navigate through a lot in the future. You're a great Dad!
