I find this method to be the kind of one that can either go very, very right or very, very wrong for the rest of one's life. And I would not dare to bet on how likely the wrong outcome is, hence I would never even dare try this.

I have thought about donating my body to science and your question led me to a fantasy.
What if my body were used to test this hypothesis and see if the brainstem was destroyed?
If there is an afterlife I would be delighted if my remains were put to such a good use.
It has happened. I will update this with an autopsy report for the man if I can find it (if it was even released). His injuries were described as a cerebral avulsion, so either the coroner misspoke or part of his brain was blow away.
Death should occur due to destruction of the central nervous system. Then the brain and marrow reduced to mush. Better than a firearm it seems. And they are very easy to find... even on Amazon.
This method could reduce or eliminate the error of hitting the brainstem incorrectly. Would this bring death very close to 100%?
Charges in fireworks don't comparable to commercial explosives in brisance (the ability to 'rip apart' solid structures) . Firstly they're weaker, basically all fireworks is just flash powder with some filler pressed in a cardboard tube it doesn't comparable at all to the things used in landmines. Secondly they vary greatly in amounts of explosives per unit and the chemical composition of a charge. So whatever you use is russian roulette. Personally I'd use large amount of gunpowder instead because blowing ones head with this will have a more predictable outcome

No, usually fireworks composed of perchlorate salts as oxidizers with elemental metals such as aluminium as reducers with some additives to change the color of flame, etc. Check wikipedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fireworks#Pyrotechnic_compounds

Once prepared (assuming I succeed) I will have to insert it into a container that I will put in my mouth and secure with tape or something else. What effect can I expect? Certain death?
