The sick thing is that they snatched her out of her home for a disease, then she gets locked up for 9 months away from her family. The proof is piling up that mental hospitals don't help anyone. It's just a conniving way to lock people up without a cause and separate families. The mother couldn't even ask her daughter if she was OK before getting hung up on.

"They were being combative" you took their child from them, what else are they supposed to feel? Grateful, happy? I hope her psychiatrist loses her license and has to pay the family after all they put her and her parents through.

Utterly disgusting the way the hospital and the doctor handled the situation. I hope the family sues the hell out of the hospital, the doctor losing her license, and even some prison time for such awful treatment!

That is really disturbing, and probably more common than we realize.

Proof that, despite the Enlightenment, we still live in the Dark Ages. And despite all the research and knowledge about about human psychology and advances in the field of medicine and psychiatry, we still treat human beings inhumanly.

Sad. Enraging.

I personally think modern science is a horror. Lots of people with heart disease that go into cardiac arrest who are meant to RIP, but are kept alive through artificial ventilation, dialysis and defibrillation. After words these people who have been brought back to life have to go on meds and therapy to ultimately prolong their pain. Just let them rest in peace already. If you aren't convinced just read Frankenstein.

Well said, those people are being kept alive against their will and oftenly in a lot of pain and suffering. In a natural world where nature run's it's course (or even those who believe in letting God decide the individual(s) fate), it would at least mean to let the person go instead of unnecessarily and unnaturally prolonging their life, resulting in more pain and suffering for the person.

I guess the incentives for the medical industry and a little bit on society's end is they feel that if they let someone die (which may relieve the sufferer) it would reflect how 'cruel' they are. So instead, they have this hero/savior attitude and duty that they must save EVERYONE, regardless of what circumstances or consequences there will be.

I remember this case. I remember seeing it on the news as it was happening. It was disgusting then and it's disgusting now that the doctor & the hospital are trying to defend their actions. They put this girl & her family through hell. They should consider themselves lucky if all they have to do is pay a bunch of money to them, which they should. They should be paying for her to live in the lap of luxury for the rest of her life, even though that will never make up for what they did to her. If it were up to me, they would all be going to jail.
How presumptive of this doctor to think she knows more than the girl's parents do, particularly when they already had her in another medical program at a different hospital. This doctor should lose her license and, perhaps, the hospital should just be shut down. I don't think they can be trusted. I certainly wouldn't trust them. If I went to see a doctor, and then I found out they had done something like this, I would never be able to go back and see them again and trust anything they said. And the same goes for the hospital where she was held captive. I would never be able to go back to that hospital for fear that they would take me hostage or something.
I wonder how much money the doctor & the hospital got from the insurance company for holding her hostage for nine months. I think if the girl prevails, and I hope she does, then the insurance company should sue to get all of their money back. And I'm normally not on the side of the insurance companies.
No doctor or hospital would ever do anything like this again though if they thought they were in jeopardy of getting in trouble with an insurance company and that those payments were going to stop.
