I'm 70, with some autoimmune problems but in general good health. I retired with no pension so money is tight but we're okay. And I have no health insurance.

This year, a friend from when we were both 17 years old moved from Penang in Malaysia to Playa del Carmen in Yucatán with his family in tow...during Covid. Friend has been committed voluntarily twice and describes himself, to all who will listen, as bipolar.

I am a charter member of the Peaceful Pill & subscribe to its regular updates on euthanasia. México is well-known for being one of the few places where one can buy pentobarbital from veterinary supply houses.

With an eye to the future, I developed a plan by which friend could social-engineer vet suppliers & mail me 100ml. All the contact details were there, all he needed to do was get on it.

Instead, what I got in the mail was a lecture! Everybody dies. The families of suicides take generations to recover their equilibrium. But it's not 'suicide' for the elderly, it's a rational personal decision.

I wasn't planning immediate use but I feel betrayed by friend for not helping me when he is in the perfect place to do so. And furthermore, treating me as if I were not capable of making my own life decisions if & when the time came.

Pento is stable for 20 years in the fridge. I personally would do this for anybody, even those I know only casually.

I've written friend off. Know anybody going to MX???

If that's how you've judged your friend all along, and it sounds like you have, then I think you received poetic justice since you were using him in spite of your clear disdain for him.

I admit I'm on my high horse.

Anyhow, I suggest you use the site search with the search term "Mexico," read the Rules and FAQ, and see the pinned Scams thread at the top of the Suicide Discussion.

Que tenga buena suerte.

You missed your calling! Mind reader, fortune teller, shrink! I should try not to be so judgmental. You sure nailed me! The MX question in my post was rhetorical but perhaps I can find a solution as you propose.

For years the solutrion for the elderly has been to let them know that they have the option to not treat the pneumonia that is usually associated with cancer, advanced heart disease, etc. For this reason many elderly avoid getting the pneumonia vaccine. This is a more natural approach in that it does not require any action, but rather the avoidance of action.

EXCEPT, Acute Respiratory Distrees Syndrome (ARDS) is a particularly horrible way to die, drowning in one's own fluids. Furthermore, hospital care for ARDS--even in the prese nce of a Living Will--would bankrupt most families without insurance. Nope: I'd prefer to choose my own exit strategy, thanks.
