Earlier this year, I was calling hotlines multiple times a day out of desperation and loneliness. Having a bad experience like someone being rude or hanging up on you is extremely fucked up feeling due to the nature of people only reaching out to these numbers when facing overwhelming suffering. I recall a time that I hung up on them because of the tone the operator was using with me despite the fact he was unprovoked.
